[Abm] Alright, hello Ryan.
[C]
I was reading through your thing on retro right, looking at your
video and I was in the middle of writing out a big long post on how to do this but then
I thought, you know, maybe a video with some pointers might be a [Ab] good idea.
See if it would
help you out a little bit.
Now then, playing the blues with one string.
First thing obviously,
you've got to find [Abm] out where there's some notes.
And the good [D] thing about blues is really,
you're only using three notes and sliding between them at first.
[Ab] So, let's find those
notes.
Harmonics for you friend here.
You'll find one dead in the middle of the string,
like that.
That's also the octave point.
You slide up to that and you've got one octave
higher than your root note, [Abm] which is the open string.
[G] Now obviously you're not going
to be able to do very much [Abm] with just octave and open.
So, let's find some more.
There's
another one here, which is your fifth harmonic.
[Eb] [Ab]
[Abm] And another one here, [Ab]
which gives you the
fourth.
And that gives you A, B, fourth, fifth, octave.
Which is enough notes to play
the blues with.
[Eb] [Ab]
Kind of like that I suppose.
Now, next thing, sliding technique.
Always
try to slide up to the note that you want or slide away from it.
Alright, so if you
want to come up to the fourth here, slide up to it.
[N] It helps get rid of all that wavery
kind of, ooh I haven't quite made it, I've got to go up a bit more.
Slide up until the
note feels right.
[Eb] A little bit of vibrato wobble as well.
Backwards and forwards, adds
tone, helps disguise wrong notes.
[N] Another important thing I just remembered, little
pinky finger here.
Keep him rested on the string.
[Abm] [Db]
[C] Which stops the back half of the string
by breaking as well, because it will give you another note and it won't be the note
that you want and things will start
