This next one, I had to learn this next request.
And I want to share a bit of this letter with you.
Musical Memories has just a dear, dear friend, Eleanor Nichols,
and she writes me continually and helps me keep the program [B] coming to you.
And she told me of a song entitled,
Only Remembered for What We Have Done, What I Have Done.
It's an old Southern song.
That's what she told me in her letter, said that her mother had been ill.
It was a favorite song of her mother's.
And you know how we mothers do, teach our kids songs,
and that's what happened.
Her mother had been sick and would continually sing this song
and said they didn't think they ever had music.
I hope you can kind of see it.
I want to show you what she sent me.
It's so small.
I enlarged it.
There you can see it a little bit.
And the words, I had to take it to my enlarger.
And I took it to my enlarger and I made it bigger and bigger
so we could read it and sing it together.
It's very easy to sing.
[Bb] Now, as I said to you, I had to learn it.
[Ab] So this is a new song for me, but it's a very, very old, as [Bb] she said,
a very, very old Southern [Gm] song.
And it talks about [G] hoping that we will be remembered for the good that we have done.
And in her last phrase, she says,
one day we are all going to be just memories.
Yeah, that's true, isn't it?
[Bb] I hope they are all good ones.
And that's more or less what this song says.
As [Gm] you will hear as I sing it or sing it with me, like I said,
I had to learn it and I kept singing it.
I was driving my family nuts.
But it so got in my mind that I couldn't turn it off.
Does that ever happen to you?
[Eb] So only remembered.
[Ab]
[Eb] [Bb]
[Eb] [D] [Eb] Up and away [Ab] like the dew [Eb] of the morning,
soaring from earth [F] to its home in [Bb] the [Eb] sun.
Thus would I pass from [Ab] this earth and its toiling.
Only [Eb] remembered for [Bb] what I have done.
[Dm] [Eb] Only remembered, [Ab] only [Cm] remembered, only [Eb] remember.
[F] only [Ab] remember, only [Eb] remember.
Only remember [Fm] for what.
[Ab] [Eb]
And when the Savior [Ab] shall make up his [Eb] jewels.
When the bright crowns of [Dm] rejoicing [Bb] are won.
[G] Then [Eb] shall my weary [Ab] and faithful [Eb] disciples.
All be remembered [Fm] for what they [Eb] have done.
[Bb]
[Eb] Only [Eb] remembered.
[Ab] Only remembered.
Only [Eb] remembered [F] for what we have done.
[Eb] Only remembered.
[Ab] Only remembered.
Only [Gm] remembered for what [Eb] we have done.
I think we need to do another verse, shall we?
Only the truth [Ab] that in life we have [D] spoken.
[Eb] Only the seeds [F] that on earth we have [Eb] sown.
These shall pass [Ab] onward when we are forgotten.
[Eb] Fruits of the harvest and what we have [C] done.
[Eb] Only remembered.
[Ab] Only [Eb] remembered.
Only remembered [F] for what we have done.
[Eb] Only remembered.
[Ab] Only remembered.
Only remembered for what we have done.
Well, I'm sure I didn't sing it as well as [Bm] her mother.
You know, isn't it wonderful the memories we have of our mother?
I have such fond memories of my mother singing,
and she wasn't really much of a soloist.
Didn't [B] really sing too well.
But what
