Hi
_ Welcome to our little tutorial here on the lap still [B] today.
I'd like to discuss a little bit about the
_ _ harmonized scale _ _
_ One of the harmonized scales that you can find on the lap still in the open a tuning
[E] This particular scale that I'd like to discuss with you is the G scale
_ So if you go [Bm] on my website still guitar lessons calm _ _ _ _
Print off this tab the one for the G scale and the name of the tab will be harmonized [N] scales
open a tuning _
Go ahead and print off your [B] tab and and we'll we'll discuss this [Bm] a little bit
How it [A#] works?
_ _ What it is.
It's a harmonized major [N] scale _ _ _
[B] And we're working out of the G
chord _ _
so
I'm going to start off in the third fret here at the G fret.
We all learned that the open fret is e [N] f g a
B C D E _ _
_ And I'm going to start off at the G fret with strings 1 & 3 [G] and hit those two notes _ _
Now my second tone harmonized tone that I want to hit in [B] this scale
would be a
Slant a forward slant and I would be starting at the fifth fret with the [F#] tip of the bar
And I'd be on the fourth fret with the middle of the [C#] bar
_ _ [Cm] So it's on like that so you the first tone would [G] be [Am] that
Second tone to third tone you'd [A] slide that two more frets up
[G] _ _
so that would be
[Am] _ Ray [N] me _
So [G] that's the first three tones _
[Bm] The fourth tone [G#m] would be at [G] the eighth fret with the bar straight again
_ _ [Am] _ _ _
[C] _ _ _ _ Then the [N] fifth tone would be two more frets up to the tenth fret with the bar [D] straight Oh
[G] _
_ _ _ [C] _ [Bm] _ _ [F#] _ [Am]
Ray me [D] fuss
_ [Bm] The next move would be [N] on the starting on the 12th fret with the bar slant
The back the middle of the [B] bar would be on the night the 11th fret
_ Still we're staying [G#] on strings 1 & 3 _
so that tone [Em] would be _ _ _
_ [A] _ _ [Bm] _ _ [D] _ _ [C] _
_ _ Next move which would be [N] your sixth tone
_ _ _ [Am] _ _
_ [C] _ _ [C#] 5 [Em] 6
Your seventh tone excuse me [Bm] would start at the 14th fret
_ _ And the middle of the bar would be on the [F#m] 13th fret
_ _ [G] So you would have that?
_ [Bm] _ [C] _
_ _ _ [F#m] _ [F#] And then finally we would resolve it by hitting the octave of the third fret
_ Which is [G] which is the 15th fret? _ _
_ _ _ [Bm] _ [C] _ _ [D] _ _
_ [F#] _ _ [G#] _ _ _ _ _
[G] _ _ _ [Bm] _ _ _ I
_ [G] _ _ _ _ _ _ [C#m] _
[N] Want you to work with those skills
And get those tones in your head and then as an exercise once you memorize [G] all these skills
_ [Bm] _ _
_ _ _ [G] _ _ forwards and backwards
_ [G#] Oh
[C] _ _ _ [G] _ _
[D] Then start
you [B] making the using that [N] particular scale and only that scale if you can and _
work out little melodies in your head like
It could be any song that you hear that you want to
Play and see for instance you might have just a tune in your head
that's not any particular song, but it's just a musical a
[A#] Musical melody [Bm] that you want to _ make out [G] of those particular [Am] moves
_ [Bm] _ _ _ [C] _ _
_ _ [Bm] _ _ _ [Am] _ _ [G] _
_ _ One two [Bm] three
_ [C] _
_ _ [G] That's the first four moves of that
_ [C] _ _ _ _ _ [Bm] _ [Am] _
_ [Bm] _ _ [G] _ _ _ _ _
_ [C] _ _ _ _ _ [D] _ _
So [C] _ _ _ [F#] _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [G] _ _ _ _ what I want you to exercise in [F#] doing is
Using those moves to create [E] melodies and then pretty soon
_ [Bm] You'll get those sounds fixed in your head, and you'll [G] be able to pick up a melody and play it by [Bm] ear
Because you know the scale
[G] _
_ _ [Bm] _ _ [C] _ _ [Bm] _ [F#] _
_ _ _ [G] _ _ _ _
Thank you very [Bm] much _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
