[A] [E]
[A] [G]
[E]
international [Am] presence I suppose.
I [A] mean it was played on Viva [A#] [E] overseas, head
banners all throughout Europe.
I mean you know even if you couldn't get
to Butte, Montana they knew who you were.
I mean so that [A] was I think that that was
huge and I think [G] it started opening up places [B] for us now to [G] headline if we so
decided [E] or get you know the whole scene itself was expanding at this time.
Slayer
wanted to take somebody else out to the US and they [G#] said how about Slayer,
Motorhead, Overkill.
We were [C] like where do I sign?
You know [F#] yeah and we were all
over that.
But on the Hello From the Gutter [G] video too I think that's the
[E] first time we got to kind of put our bat out there you know so was and that's
been a big part of our band for 40 plus years you know is that from the first
record we did till now we still use it it's still our thing so that was kind of
that was its introduction kind of everybody that [N] actually see it flying
around and moving around.
That's what I remember actually was the flying bat I
remember seeing the [G#m] video remember watching the flying [E] bat and then of
course seeing [Bm] the infamous [C] Beavis and Butthead on [G#] the flying bat but yeah I
remember well sure.
[E] And was Beavis and Butthead [G] a bunch of years after the video or
I don't think it was [B] simultaneously.
It wasn't right?
[C] No.
It was [F#] much later
right yeah because [B] that's I get that [A#] more than I got I get oh I remember
Hello From the Gutter that people saying I remember Hello From the Gutter [B] from
the Beavis and Butthead thing I guess it [A#] was so big at the time I got 8,000 phone
calls [A] around Beavis and Butthead.
[B] [G]
[F#] Well you know what's funny about because you mentioned the Hello From the Gutter
and and [Em] and [F#] yeah it was it was a staple on MTV [G] but for me this goes back to that
WRUC channel that I was listening to [A] I [G#] always came [E] from and this is still [F#] not
coming out all the time but I always I always go from the the drum intense song
and I'm like yeah Hello From the Gutter [C#] is cool but why don't [F#m] they do a video for
Shred instead you know same [F#] record but once once again [A] that's me come that's
the first song I heard off the record I was like [F] ah you know so but [G] [F#] hey anytime
that [A] a heavy a heavy band can get in [G] rotation on MTV [F#] that's a good [E] thing
[G] yeah I don't I don't remember [Bm] seeing that I must [F#m] have maybe I was drunk I
don't know it [F#] couldn't very well be back then [B] drink a lot of beers [G] that was a new
experience doing [F#] a video too that was [B] we had done a video for In [C] Union We Stand
it was kind of a [F#] performance thing and it was that was our first go at it and
then [E] Hello From the Gutter was our kind of second run at it so [C] strange thing to
do a video for your first time that was that was some growing pains there a
little bit too [G] to just not plug in your guitar and pretend that you're doing a
that was [E] I know most bizarre things I never liked them I still don't like yeah
I mean it's it's like it's nice to [Em] see the final result but [F] getting to that
final [C] result to me is just it's just too much [E] yeah it's pop circumstance [A#] it's
never feel [C] fake out yeah [Em] moving your mouth and nothing's coming out [D#] right
it's [G#] like all you need is the mirror and [F#] you know she felt [F#] like that was a scene
and risky business but in any case they're obviously valuable and and it
gave [E] us more presence and we continue to do them based on [D#] you know I mean [Em] the
idea is to [E] keep the presence there if the presence is there in the video is
necessary then I [G#] like the video I just don't particularly physically [F#] like going
through [F#] 15 hours of can you do that again of course I can but I don't want
to and having Charlie in the video definitely made that more of [E] a that made
the [Em] bat and Charlie more of [E] a visual point of overkill so yes that was a big
big deal with that video and that was cool [Em] you gotta see the first one I mean
[A#] I [E] [F] always tell the story that might not have been a cocktail nap but that's what
it looked like and he drew it he loved this guy loves it just a little sketch
and [F#] it looked like [B] Popeye with wings you know what I mean [E] it was just it was
unbelievable right and it was like I think what I think we're gonna have
something here I'm like gotta be fucking kidding me [G] [A] and it [E] was you know it was
weird weird I don't know if we were specifically looking for something my
[C] girlfriend at the time my wife now had gotten me this pin [B] that was kind of like
that little bat kind of thing or whatever and we were looking for
something I remember being at our first original drummers house and we were
sitting around maybe we were sketching logos or we were noodling [N] or because we used to
make our own t-shirts back in the day too you know we would silk screen [B] them
all in the basement and hang them all over the [C] amps before we go over for a
gig full service band [F#] so we like you know putting the [A#] overkill logo on the
front [B] you know we got this big logo [F#] here and like we need something on the [B] back
you know we're what are we gonna do and we kind of had the blood metal [A#] but we were
calling ourselves [E] blood metal because there was black metal we could be blood metal [G] you know so
the blood metal donors and so we have the rockers you know like on the back of
a biker kind [C] of thing and I don't know [C] the whole thing just kind of made sense
to us we always liked that horror kind of shit too especially back in the day
we used [F#] to be skulls all over the stage and candelabras and spider webs and we
were always into that shit and kind of a skull with wings you know [C#] that was
like milk and cookies.
Fucking no-brainer.
Yeah that was [D] still a no-brainer.
Yeah it really is I don't think we thought back and [G#] you know would this be I mean I
don't even think Iron Maiden would be a long a band [C] this long let alone us you know so
but it's stuck with us for [E] a long time how a lot of people identified like I
said on the Hello From the Gutter video or our album covers they're still
identified that way a [E] lot.
I never I never I never really saw it and be
honest with you with like Headbangers Ball at [Em] the time it was like [E] I didn't
really kind of watch it was just to me I guess it was [G#] like the thing that I tried
not to [F] gravitate to is because it's like [E] a lot of hair metal a lot of all of that
[B] type of stuff and I wasn't really into [Em] all of that type of stuff I was more
into the heavier [E] side of things and that was that was on [F#] the outskirts of what
Headbangers Ball was.
[F] Headbangers Ball was Warren Gratt [F#] and Lovely Crew and all that
like and [A] I was like you know [E] that's fine but [G] I'm not really into that and then
it started getting heavier later days and seeing [F#] like Anthrax on there and all
that stuff and that's but I never saw I never saw the Hello From the Gutter
video never [E] did.
