Be in your early 30s and be starting over?
Um, [B] no, it doesn't [Abm] really feel like that to me because I've always had this good home
base, [N] you know.
I suppose it's a little bit like that if you look at it here.
So it doesn't feel that strange.
Other Voices represents a change of direction for you a little bit though, doesn't it?
It does, yeah, because I had a kind of a team that I was always working with and I decided
that I was playing things a bit too safe, working with the same people all the time
and I felt that the stuff I was recording sounded that way.
[G] So I started again, I've gone out and used a lot of different musicians, worked with
a lot of [Abm] different producers and come up with [Gb] quite a varied [Dm] album, which is quite a good
[N] indication of the kind of stuff I listen to.
You've got a lot of names on this album too.
I mean Stevie Wonder helps out on the harmonica, you've got Chaka Khan doing some background vocals.
How'd you enlist all these people?
Um, it started with Dave Gilmour who offered his services just after his last tour and
then I got the album underway and there was actually something on there that I thought
he would really play well on and he said yes and did that.
Then with Stevie Wonder and Stevie Winwood, it was both cases of [Abm] the instruments they
play, there's not really many other people playing as [G] well as that.
[N] Stevie plays great chromatic harmonica, Stevie Winwood, there's not many people play Hammond and solo.
Must take a high compliment they said yes then.
When the album is Other Voices, what's the song going to be today?
This is a song called Oh Girl.
Okay, thank you.
[G]
Oh girl, [Bm] you'd be in trouble if you left me now.
[C] I don't know where to look for love, I just don't know how.
[G] Oh girl, [Bm] how I depend on you [C] to give me love when I [Am] need it right on time.
Time would always [Bb] be for my friends, [F] call me a fool.
[G] They say, let the woman take care of [C] you.
[Bb] So I, I try to be everything [F] like the crowd.
Yeah, [G] but even the crowd [C] can't help me now.
Oh [G]
girl, [Bm] what am I gonna do?
[C] I know I've got a guilty [Am] face, girl I [G] feel so out of place.
[Bm] I can't get out of here.
[C] I [Am] don't know where to go, who to [G] see, don't know.
Oh girl, you'd be [Bm]
in [C] trouble if you left me [Am] now.
[C]
[Gm] [Bb] All my friends [F] call me a fool.
Yeah, [G] they say, let the woman take care of you.
[C] [Am] [G]
Oh girl, [Bm] I guess I can let it go.
[C] I can save myself a lot of useless [Am] tears, girl I've got to get away [G] from you.
Oh girl, [Bm] you'd be in trouble if you left me now.
[C] Cause I don't know where love turned up [Am] and I don't, I [G] don't know how.
I [Bm] don't know how, I don't [C] know how.
[Am] Have you ever seen such [Am] a helpless [G] man?
[Bm] Said, why do I love you so?
[C] I just don't know, [Am] [Em] don't [D] know where to go, [C] don't [G] know.
[Bm] I'd be nothing without [C] you now.
[Am] What can I [G] do?
[Am] What can I do?
[G] Oh girl.
The album's Other Voices, Paul Young, thank you.
