The [Db] story is, [D] God had just done a [Gb] marvelous, _ _ _ _ redeeming work in my own heart.
I come from missionary [D] stock.
My parents were missionaries.
Of course, as missionaries you have to have at least five children.
And so, we were all living in Argentina. _
But [Am] it was a hard experience for me.
[D] I spent a lot of years in a boarding school.
I _ _ was just running, ready to leave [Bb] all that behind, part of any kind of [F] ministry.
_ _ And so, for the Lord to completely [B] alter my life, [Bb] _ was [F] absolutely unexpected.
I wasn't looking for Him at all.
But you know, He [G] finds those who don't look for Him.
[Cm] You know that right?
[N] _
_ _ By His grace.
And so, that was all real fresh.
In fact, that was really the birth of everything.
_ [Bb] _ _ And so, that first project was full of lots of tears, _ broken and spilled out.
The song called, The Bring Back.
_ And _ _ _ [D] then this song, People Need the Lord, which you think, okay, well that's a song about [N] missions. _
But for me, it wasn't just missions.
It isn't just people out there who haven't heard about Him.
_ It's us.
It isn't that when you first come to faith, you need a big Savior.
But the longer you go on, you do pretty well by yourself, and so you need less and less of Jesus.
Instead, no, we need more [E] and more of Him all the time.
All the time.
_ And [F] so, I was kind of involved in that situation.
I had a friend who was just going through his _ _ life as a believer.
He was my summer school teacher, and his wife was.
_ And I just had lunch with him, and I went to the studio to record this.
And every time I got to the chorus, I just [E] fell apart.
And finally, Greg Nelson, the producer, said, you know, we're spending a lot of money [Bb] here for you to [A] fall apart.
Why don't [F] you go home and come back tonight, [Dm] and let's see if we can do this again.
[Gb] _ So, that's the meaning of the song [N]
to me, is recognizing my own desperate need for Jesus.
And the fact that the work that He does is not just a small little, _ you know,
it's not like adding the bowl on top of the package of bread or the frosting on a cake.
It's not that.
It is life-altering.
It is from death to resurrection.
It is from bondage to freedom.
It is from darkness to light.
I mean, all these metaphors that we use to describe the work of Christ, it's real.
And we run out of words because we just can't [B] explain.
