I'm just going to quickly talk about some of the parts that are really quite interesting
[Gbm] in the song.
The first bit I'm going to talk about is the chorus section.
[A]
[D]
[Ab] [Abm]
What I've heard on the CD [N] and what I've seen the band play on videos and stuff is a little bit different.
So what I've tried to do in the first time this section appears in the song, I've tried
to play the first half the way I've heard it and then the second half the way I've seen
them play it.
What I'm going to talk about is the way I've seen Matt play this chorus.
It's more fun as a drummer to stab at these crashes and stuff and feel the metal like he's done.
So what happens there is he's hitting his accents in the chorus and then he's filling
them out as ghost notes on the snare.
[E]
I'll play that again with the track this time.
[Bm] [Gbm]
[D]
[Gbm]
[A] [D]
[Bm] [Ab] [A]
Alright, so what we want to do now just to finish that off is to add those joining 16th
note snares to those crash and snare parts that I just played.
[N]
[Ab]
[E]
[Ab]
[E] [Eb]
[Ab]
[N] Alright, so there's just one more little thing that I wanted to look at and I wasn't going
to worry about it but it's a really cool part of the song at the end of the piece.
What he plays is a 16th note groove, keeps the same kick pattern but then they move the
snare to this other part of the song.
That section [Ab] is this.
[N]
So the second half is the same kick pattern but the groove over the top is different and
that sounds like this on its own.
So if you analyse what that second part is, if you actually put the new pulse on those
China parts, you're actually playing a quintuplet groove which looks like this.
So what you've got to get comfortable with is playing quintuplet 16ths on the kick drum
and because you're playing groups of 5 now instead of 4, what happens is you're going
to start beat 1 on your right foot, beat 2 you're going to land on your left foot.
So the kick drum part is like this.
So what I'll do is I'll play a quintuplet bar twice and then I'll keep that quintuplet
pattern going but I'll play the second half of that riff that they repeat at the end of the song.
