So this exercise is one I learned back when I was in college.
great exercise for controlling your left hand fingers.
A lot of guitar players have no control over their pinky.
a lot of country pickers and blues pickers,
gets anywhere near the neck of the guitar.
exercise.
do this while you're watching TV.
tennis matches and doing this exercise.

_ _ _ _ So this exercise is one I learned back when I was in college.
It's a great exercise _ for controlling your left hand fingers.
A lot of guitar players have no control over their pinky.
You'll see a lot of country pickers and blues pickers,
and their pinky never gets anywhere near the neck of the guitar.
_ But what I'm going to show you is this exercise.
This is one that you do, it doesn't take a lot of concentration.
You can do this while you're watching TV.
I spent many years watching tennis matches and doing this exercise.
But you can choose whatever show works for you.
_ [C] Here's what you do.
You [Fm] play [Gb] [Gm] the [Abm] first four frets on the first string,
and [Db] leave each finger down.
Then you [C] lift only the finger you need when you go to the next string.
_ So [Db] that one, [D] that one, that [Eb] one, that [Ab] one.
_ [A] _ _ [Bb] _
_ [B] _ _ [E] It's [F] all about controlling [Gb] the left hand [Bb] fingers.
[Bm] It's [C] not about speed.
[Db] Not yet, anyway.
[F] _
[Gb] _ [G] _ _ [Ab] [G] Then you go up to the next fret. _
[A] _ _ _ [D] _ [C] But you [G] don't lift the finger until you [Am] _ [Eb] absolutely have to lift the finger.
[A] _ [Bb] _ _
[E] _ [Bb] _ _ [B] _ [Db] _ [Gb] _ [Ab] _ [Db] _
[Eb] _ [Ab] _ [Bb] [C] I used to do this in front of a mirror.
So I could just see my left hand,
just to make sure that my left hand was in really good position
and had a good sense of [E] form, too. _ _ _
_ [A] _ It's one of the ones that I did a lot when _ [E] I was getting over the stroke.
I would do this a lot because I couldn't figure out how to do an upstroke.
I just had to rewire the synapses.
_ So I would [Fm] do this, and then nothing would happen.
I'd try [Gm] to go up, nothing would happen.
_ _ [Am] But I did it over and over and over again.
_ _ _ [Db] [Eb] I suggest that if you want to [Bb] get a little service about the guitar,
try this exercise.
It'll be really good for you. _ _ _ _ _
