To me, one of the wonderful things of the past couple of years is to see a whole batch
of young people coming along who decided that they'd do just like Woody Guthrie did, make
up songs about everything that happens.
Not to try and get in a hit parade necessarily, but just to make a good song.
And if it gets on the hit parade, that's fine.
We'll reach more people.
But like Woody did, they're making up songs about every imaginable subject.
And I thought I'd devote the whole rest of this first half of the program to new songs,
which you may or probably haven't ever heard before.
First is by a young fellow named [A] Tom Paxton.
It has a nice chorus.
You can all come in on it.
Some of you may know it.
So here's to you.
May [E] all your eyes [A] bring you joy.
So here's to you.
May [E] all your temples bring you [A] joy.
He was a man and a friend always.
We bummed [E] around in the [A] hard old days.
He'd never cared if I had no dough.
We [E] bummed around in the [A] rain and snow.
So here's to you, my ramblin' boys.
May all [E] your eyes [A] bring you joy.
Oh, sing it again.
Here's to you.
May [E] all your temples bring [A] you joy.
In Tulsa town, we chanced [A] astray.
We thought we'd [E] try to work one [A] day.
The boss said he [D] had room [A] for one.
Says my old [E] pal, we'd rather bum.
So here's to you.
May all [E] your temples [A]
bring you joy.
So here's to you.
[D]
[A] May all [E] your eyes
[A] bring you joy.
Late [E] one night in a [A] jungle camp.
The [E] weather, it was cold [A] and damp.
He got the chills and he got them bad.
I lost [E] the only friend I [A] had.
So here's to you.
[E]
[A] Here's to you.
[E]
[A] He left [E] me here to ramble [A] on.
My [E] rambling pal is dead and [A] gone.
If when we die, we go somewhere.
I bet you [E] a dollar he's rambling [A]
there.
So here's to you.
[D] [A] [E]
[A]
Here's to you.
