_ _ _ I'm moving the left hand and half it.
This would be the _ _ _ pulse.
[C#] _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ Now, a lot [N] of drummers, a lot of my drum heroes, _ _ play _ by moving the left hand in this manner.
I'll do this on really fast _ _ _ tempos, but otherwise, _ _ this is a technique I haven't really quite mastered. _ _
The art of playing Brushes DVD that Steve Smith put together with Adam Nussbaum, _ _ with
a number of great drum masters, _ _ _ including Billy Hart and Joe Morello. _ _ _
Apologies for any names I don't mention.
But anyway, all these gentlemen _ show the way that they play, and most of them _ do _ _ this kind of thing.
So, I encourage you to check that out.
But anyway, this is the way I play it. _ _ _

_ _ _ _ _ As you get faster, _ _ _ _ _ the right hand's not moving around in a circle anymore.
It's pretty much _ _ busy.
It's got its hands full just playing the right. _
I _ _ _ do it, this is kind of a dumb way to do it, to be honest.
The right hand's doing all the work.
When it gets really, really fast, a lot of drummers will split the beat up, or the pattern,
between the two hands.
Generally, I just play real fast with the right hand.
It's a lot of work. _ _ _
_ When you're, _ _ _ whether you're playing it at fast or medium or slow tempos with the brushes,
_ _ _ there's an interesting thing about playing with the brushes. _ _
_ _ Generally, I've found with my own playing and with my students that _ the brushes sound
faster than you think, if that makes any sense.
So, _ I try to keep in mind, or I encourage my students to widen out the beat a little
bit when you're playing, _ when you're improvising or _ playing fills or whatever.
_ The point is not to play them as fast as you can. _ _ _ _ _ _ _

And [G] _ _ _ _ [C] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ of course, with the brushes, you can [G#] play double strokes as well as single [Em] strokes.
