_ _ _ _ _ Phil Collins is absolutely amazing.
Have you got some free tickets?
Yeah, I love Phil Collins.
He's odd, yeah.
He's singing and he's drumming.
He's a bit of a legend, lots of dads like him.
Dad rock.
And the guitar, I can't remember the band he's in though.
He was in Genesis, wasn't he?
A band called Genesis.
He plays the drums.
_ _ Candle in the Wind.
No, that was John.
Was that the one that was on?
Yeah.
Oh, right, cool.
I can feel it coming in the air tonight.
Come on.
I can [B] feel it coming in the [G#m] air [E] tonight.
Oh Lord.
Do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do.
Do [C#]-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do.
Do-do-do [F]-do-do-do-do-do-do-do.

We did a long tour in _ 1977 and the result of that [F#] was my marriage breaking. _ _ _
[C#] And I went through all the things of trying to make it work,
but by the time I came back from Canada, [C#m] Mike and Tony were doing their solo albums.
[B] And so I had some time on my hands [A] and I just bought, we'd all bought home [B] studios.
So I started to [C#m] fiddle about.
I can feel [C#] it coming in the air [A] tonight.
_ [B] Oh Lord.
_ _ [C#m] And I've been waiting [C#] for this moment for all [A] my life.
Oh [C#] Lord.
I took over the master [C#m] bedroom, you know, moved everything out and put my studio [C#] in there.
And it wasn't soundproofed and [A] it wasn't, you know, there was clicks and buzzes.
[C#] If the fridge went on or the phone rang, you heard it.
Oh [C#m] Lord.
I can't remember the specific day of In The Air Tonight, but I mean, literally I was,
I had a really nice local pub that I had friends in and I was going through a bit of a hard time.
And so I'd go down there and have a few drinks and talk and laugh and then come back ready to work.
You know, I had no one to answer to.
I mean, you know, I had a wife and two children and two dogs and I didn't have anything suddenly.
You know, so it was like, _ you know, a lot of time on my hands.
Well if you told me you were drowning, _ [G#m] I would not lend a hand.
_ _ [A] I've seen your face before my friend, but [C#m] I don't know if you know who I am.
I was angry, I was miserable, I was [F#] sad, you know, I was _ depressed about not having my [D#m] family around.
I mean, I was constantly on the phone to [D] her and the phone kept going down.
You know, we argued a lot and as people [C#m] do when they go through that kind of thing. _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[G#m] The lyrics were all improvised.
I don't know what it's about, which is, you know, the [A] more people say to me what it's about,
I just say, [C] I can promise you it isn't about whatever you think it is, because I don't know what it's about.
There's a lot of anger in there, I think.
_ _ _ But I didn't really ever intend it [C#m] to be that way.
It's just spontaneous lyrics.
So I guess I wasn't afraid to show my feelings.
But I am the reason why you keep your silence.
I'm [C#] the _ reason for me.
_ [A] The hurt doesn't show.
The pain [C#m]
slows.
Some strangers in you and [E] me. _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [C#m] _
Harking Sears.
[B] That's what it sounds like.
_ [A] _ _
_ [B] On the original demo, the drums just [C#m] come in.
I recorded some drums at my house [Gm] and they just come, you know, all been apocalysed.
I can feel it coming.
The drums just enter.
But of course, you know, drummers are always busy themselves.
So by the time we got into recording it, I just did a fill into it, you know.
I mean, like, the take before would have been something different.
And the take after, if I'd have done another take, would have been something different again.
It just, we decided to keep that [C#m] take.
And it happened to have that drum fill on it.
And, you know, it's just become what I'm known for.
But it was real luck.
_ _ [C#] _ _ _ _ [C#m] _
My ex-wife got very mad when I wrote this album because she felt I was capitalising on it.
[C#] On the sadness, you know.
_ [A] _
A [G#m] lot of people, including my ex-wife, were very _ [C#m] _
surprised that I [F#] actually could say that kind of thing.
But to me, that's [C#m] what writing songs is all about.
