_ _ Hello!
In this video I'll show you how to recreate the TB-303 patterns of
ACID TRACKS, Future Jacks, and Your Only Friend by Future.
First we listen into ACID TRACKS from 1987.
_ [Bb] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [F] _ _ _
_ [B] _ I take a Roland TB-303 [Gb] and clear pattern 1.
Then I set the pattern length to half a [B] bar and press the key switches for the pitch of the notes in Pitch mode. _
[A] _ _ _ _ _ _ [Bb] _ _
_ _ [E] _ _ [Dbm] _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [Bbm] _ _ Now I [E] enter the note steps [Eb] in Time mode.
In the original, the pattern sounds slightly overdriven.
Whether this is intentional or happened between recording and vinyl pressing I don't know.
[B] To have the sound as close as possible to the original, I add a slight [F] overdrive and a reverb from Logic Pro X.
_ Let's listen to the first pattern [E] and compare it with the [Gb] original. _ _ _ _ _
[Bb] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[A] _ _ _ _ _ _ Now I [E] clear pattern 2 [Bb] and set the pattern [F] length to half a bar. _ _
_ Then I press the key switches for the pitch [A] of the notes.
_ _ _ _ _ _ [Bb] _ _
_ _ _ [E] _ _ [Db] _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [Bb] _ Now I enter one [Gb] slide and four [A] accents. _ _ _ _
[C] _ _ [Bb] _ _ _ _ [Db] _ _
_ _ [Bb] _ _ _ _ Then I [G] enter the note steps.
_ _ _ Let's listen to the [E] second pattern and compare it with the original.

Now I clear pattern 3 and set the pattern length [B] to half a bar.
_ _ Then I enter the pitch of [Db] the notes. _

_ _ [Bb] _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [G] _ _ _ _

To this I will add some samples [A] from the original. _ _ _ _ _ _ _

[Bb] _ _ [Db] _ _ _ _ [A] we listen into Future Jacks. _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [C] _ _ [A] _ _ [C] _
_ _ [D] _ _ [Eb] I clear pattern 1 and press the key [Gb] switches for the pitch of the [A] notes.
_ [C] _ _
_ _ [A] _ [D] _ _ _ Then I [C] enter the note steps. _ _ _ _ _ _
_ Let's listen to the first pattern. _ _ _

_ _ _ _ _ [C] _ _
_ _ [A] _ _ _ [D] _ _
[F] Then I enter the note [E] steps. _ _ _ _
_ _ Let's listen to the second pattern.
_ [C] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [D] _ _
_ [Ab] Now let's listen to [E] both patterns.
To this I will add some samples from the original.

[C] _ _ _ _ _ _ [A] _ _
[C] _ _ [A] _ _ [C] _ _ [A] _ _
[C] _ _ _ [D] _ _ _ Now we listen into Your [N] Only Friend. _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ Some [Gb] notes can only be [F] played when the tuning [G] control is [Ab] turned down two semitones. _
Also, [A] the original is out of tune by about half a semitone.
If I tune my 303 2 1⁄2 semitones lower, it sounds like the original to me.
For this I enter a simple pattern where the note [Eb] C plays over the whole bar.
With a tuner plugin I tune the 303 2 1⁄2 [C] semitones lower.

_ _ [Eb] _ _ _ [E] Then I enter the note steps in Time Mode. _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _
Let's listen to the pattern. _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ Now I will add some samples from the original.
