Hey, what's up you guys?
Marty Schwartz here of Marty Music.
Thank you for the continued support over here, right here.
Right here, so thank you so much.
We're gonna break down the progression for Comfortably Numb.
Got the solos coming your way as well.
So we'll just get the whole thing going.
But here's the progression.
Let's go!
All right, this is one of those great songs where there's just one bar chord.
And it's the first chord of the song, it's B minor.
So it's just like A minor up a whole step.
But we gotta bar it on the second fret.
So we have to switch our fingers.
So we've got barred on the second fret, middle there, ring there, pinky [Bm] there.
So here's the verse.
B minor to [A] A major, which is a nice easy chord.
Then we go G.
And you can play G any way that you know how.
I'm gonna play it this way with the double fingers, pinky, ring, index, middle.
I'm gonna do a little bass note,
[F#] which is the second fret of the E string, down to E minor.
[G] So G, [Em] the E minor.
And this is also one of those progressions that starts and ends with the same chord.
[Bm] So back to B minor.
Starts over on B minor.
B minor [A] to A chord.
And then [E] G.
[G]
G, [Em] note, E minor.
[Bm] E minor again.
[G] So just look at that one little section.
[F#] [Em]
So G down to E minor, back to [Bm] B minor.
And a little tip for the B minor, your elbow, if it goes in, look at what happens when it
goes towards my ribcage.
Look at my hand.
It gets my hand into an easier position.
If I'm not here, bad.
If I move it in, my fingers go up like that.
And it helps get that chord down.
So let's play that verse one more time.
Then I'm gonna show you the other part.
And then you're pretty much on your way.
B minor.
And a strumming pattern, [C] you go down, [E] down, down, up, down.
Down, down, up, down.
And I'm gonna always vary that a little bit.
But down, [F#] down, down, up, down.
[Em] Here we go.
B [Bm] minor,
[A] A major.
[G] G, [D]
that [Em] note, E minor.
[Bm] Back to B minor again.
One more time.
B minor.
Down [A] to A major.
[G]
[Em] G, E [Bm]
minor again.
Okay, the next section.
[A#]
It's gonna go D to A
[E] a few times.
So D to A.
And then it's gonna go C to G a few times.
Then back D to A a few times.
And then there's the turnaround.
So check it out.
D to A.
[D] D, D, to D.
Back [A] to A.
Does it again.
[D]
D, D, to D.
To [A] the A.
Now we're gonna do C.
[C] C to G.
C [G] to G.
Again, [C] C, C, C.
C, C, [G] C, G.
Now back to D.
[D] When D, D, D, D.
Back [G] [A] to A.
[D] My D's fell like two [A]
A's.
Now the C to G thing [C] again.
C, C, C, C, to [G] the G, G.
One more time on that.
[C] C, C, C, C, [G] G.
Now this is the turnaround.
[A] And A,
[G] [C]
C, [G] G, [D] to the G.
To the D.
So check out what happens there.
There's a little kind of thing.
That's a very technical term.
A little kind of thing.
[A] So A, two, three, [B]
four, and.
And so if you're counting one, two, three, [G] four, and.
[A] And on that and, which can be an up strum.
Down, down, down, [G] down, up.
[B] It's really emphasizing the B note right here.
The second fret of the A string.
And it's kind of like a piece of a G chord.
[G] [Em] But you can play, [A] really emphasize that note.
But you can get your, another finger,
pinky or ring finger on the third fret of the B string.
This would be called G slash B, or G over B.
Meaning it's a G chord, but with a B note in the bass.
The lowest note of the chord.
So one, two, three, [G] four, and.
[C] C,
[G] G, [D]
D.
[E]
That's coming up.
So, that, turn around one more [A] time.
[C]
[G]
[D]
I don't think I've ever [Em] bent on this.
[A]
[F#]
[D] [G] Okay, so, [D] that's the whole song.
But over the guitar solo, it's.
Do, [A] do, do, do, A, A, A, A.
[D] D, D, [A] D, D, A.
[C] Then the C.
C, C, [G] C, D, D, G, G.
[C] C, D, D, [G] D, D, D, D, D.
So instead of going back to D here, it's just [E] shorter.
[A] And I, it just goes to that, turn [B] around.
[C] You [G] have a call, how [D] to be known.
[E] So, why don't you play it with me?
We're here anyway, right?
So, why don't you play along with me,
through the parts, from the top, B minor.
One, two, here we go.
[Bm] B minor, to [A] A major.
[G] G, [Em] walk down to E minor.
[Bm] B minor again.
We're gonna start over on B minor.
B minor starts over.
Then we go [A] to A chord, yeah.
[G] G.
[Em] D.
[Bm] B minor again.
[Em] D.
[D]
D, D, D, D.
And then it's gonna go to [G] A.
It's an [A] A chord.
[D] D, D, D, D, then to the [A] A.
Then we're gonna go to C to G.
[C] C, C, C, C, [G] to the G.
Same thing again, C to G.
[C] C, C, C, C, C, [G] C, G.
Now back to the D to the A's.
[D] And D, D, D, D.
Back to [A] the A chord.
[D]
D, D, D, D, D, [G] to [A] A.
Then the C to G's again.
[G] [C] C, C, C, to the G.
C, C, to [G] the G.
And then we go to the turnaround [A] A.
A.
[G]
[C] [G]

that [Em] note, E minor.
[A] And A,

So we've got barred on the second fret, middle there, ring there, pinky [Bm] there. _ _ _ _
_ _ So here's the verse.
B minor _ to _ _ _ _ _ _ _ [A] A major, which is a nice easy chord. _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _
Then we go G.
And you can play G any way that you know how.
I'm gonna play it this way _ _ _ _ _ _ with the double fingers, pinky, ring, _ _ index, middle. _ _ _ _ _
I'm gonna do a little bass note, _ _ _
[F#] _ _ _ _ which is the second fret of the E string, _ _ down to E minor.
[G] So _ G, [Em] the E minor.
_ _ _ _ _ And this is also one of those progressions that starts and ends with the same chord.
[Bm] So back to B minor.
_ _ Starts over on B minor.
B minor _ _ _ _ _ _ [A] to A chord. _
_ And then [E] G.
_ _ [G] _
G, _ _ [Em] note, E minor. _
_ _ [Bm] E minor again. _
_ _ _ [G] So just look at that one little section.
_ _ _ _ [F#] _ _ [Em] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _
So G down to E minor, back to [Bm] B minor.
_ _ _ _ And a little tip for the B minor, your elbow, _ if it goes in, look at what happens when it
goes towards my ribcage.
Look at my hand. _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
It gets my hand into an easier position.
If I'm not here, _ _ _ bad.
If I move it in, my fingers go up like that.
And it helps get that chord down.
So let's play that verse one more time.
Then I'm gonna show you the other part.
And then you're pretty much on your way.
B minor.
_ And a strumming pattern, [C] you go down, _ [E] down, down, up, down.
_ Down, down, up, down.
And I'm gonna _ _ always vary that a little bit.
But down, [F#] _ down, down, up, down.
[Em] Here we go.
B [Bm] minor,
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[A] A major. _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [G] _ _ G, [D] _
_ _ that [Em] note, E minor. _
_ _ [Bm] _ Back to B minor again.
One more time.
_ B minor.
_ _ _ _ _ _ Down [A] to A major. _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [G] _ _ _ _ _ _
[Em] G, E _ [Bm] _ _
minor again.
Okay, the next section.
[A#] _
It's gonna go D to A _
[E] _ a few times.
So D to A.
And then it's gonna go C to G a few times.
Then back D to A a few times.
_ And then there's the _ _ turnaround.
So check it out.
D to A.
_ [D] _ D, D, to D.
_ Back [A] to A. _ _
_ Does it again.
_ [D] _ _
D, D, to D. _
To [A] the A.
_ Now we're gonna do C.
_ _ _ [C] _ C _ to G.
_ C [G] to G. _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Again, [C] C, C, C. _
C, C, [G] C, G. _
Now back to D.
_ _ _ [D] When D, _ D, D, D.
_ Back [G] [A] to A. _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [D] _ My D's fell like two [A] _
A's.
_ _ Now the C to G thing [C] again.
C, _ C, C, _ C, to [G] the G, _ G. _
One more time on that.
_ [C] C, C, C, C, _ [G] G. _
_ _ _ Now this is the turnaround. _
_ [A] And _ A, _ _
_ _ [G] _ _ _ [C] _ _ _
C, [G] _ _ G, _ [D] to the G.
To the D.
_ _ _ So check out what happens there.
There's a little _ kind of thing.
_ That's a very technical term.
A little kind of thing.
[A] So A, two, _ _ three, _ [B]
four, and. _ _ _ _ _
_ And so if you're counting one, two, _ three, [G] four, _ and.
[A] And on that and, which can be an up strum.
_ Down, down, _ down, [G] down, up.
_ [B] _ _ It's really emphasizing the B note right here.
The second fret of the A string.
_ And it's kind of like a piece of a G chord. _
[G] _ _ _ [Em] But you can play, _ _ [A] really emphasize that note.
But you can get your, another finger,
pinky or ring finger on the third fret of the B string.
This would be called _ G slash B, or G over B.
Meaning it's a G chord, but with a B note in the bass.
The lowest note of the chord.
So one, two, _ three, _ [G] four, and. _ _
_ _ [C] _ C, _ _ _
[G] _ _ G, _ _ [D] _
D. _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [E] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ That's coming up. _
So, _ _ that, _ _ turn around one more [A] time. _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [C] _ _
_ _ _ [G] _ _ _ _ _
_ [D] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ I don't think I've ever [Em] bent on this. _
_ _ _ _ [A] _ _ _ _
_ _ [F#] _ _ _ _ _ _
[D] _ _ [G] _ _ _ _ Okay, so, [D] _ _ that's the whole song.
But over the guitar solo, _ it's.
_ _ _ _ _ Do, [A] do, do, do, A, A, A, A.
[D] _ _ _ _ D, D, [A] D, D, A. _ _ _
[C] Then the _ C.
C, C, [G] C, D, D, G, _ G.
_ [C] _ C, _ _ D, D, [G] D, D, D, D, D.
_ So instead of going back to D here, it's just [E] shorter.
[A] And I, it just goes to that, turn [B] around.
_ [C] _ _ _ You [G] have a call, how [D] to be known. _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [E] _ So, why don't you play it with me?
We're here anyway, right?
So, why don't you play along with me,
_ through the parts, from the top, B minor.
_ One, _ two, _ here we go.
[Bm] B minor, _ _ _ _ _ _ to [A] A major. _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [G] _ G, _ _ [Em] walk down to E minor. _
[Bm] _ B minor again.
We're gonna start over on B minor.
B minor starts over.
_ _ _ Then we go [A] to A chord, _ yeah. _ _ _
[G] _ G.
_ _ [Em] D. _
_ _ _ [Bm] B minor again.
_ _ [Em] D.
_ [D] _
D, D, D, D.
And then it's gonna go to [G] A.
It's an [A] A chord. _ _ _ _
_ _ [D] _ _ _ D, D, D, D, then to the [A] A.
_ Then we're gonna go to C to G. _ _
[C] _ _ C, C, C, C, _ [G] to the G.
Same thing again, C to G.
_ _ _ _ [C] C, C, C, _ C, C, [G] C, G.
_ _ Now back to the D to the A's.
[D] And D, D, D, D.
_ Back to [A] the A chord.
_ _ _ _ _ _ [D] _
D, D, D, D, D, [G] to [A] A.
_ Then the C to G's again.
[G] _ [C] _ _ _ C, C, _ C, to the G.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
C, C, _ _ _ _ to [G] the G.
_ And then we go to the turnaround [A] A.
A.
_ _ _ _ _ _ [G] _ _
[C] _ _ _ _ _ [G] _ _ _
_ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
