Earlier tonight we [C] saw an exclusive performance from PJ Harvey.
Here she [Ab] is with her thoughts on her third Mercury nominated album, Stories from the City, [A] Stories from the Sea.

[Em] _ _ I think with every [A] album I try and _ do something different to what I've done before, that's kind of the bottom line for me.
And I just felt that I hadn't really explored making an album that was _ consistently high energy, positive, _ poppy, tuneful, melodic.
I think a lot of my work, _ [G] I've been much more interested in exploring darker, heavier, lower, weightier sounds.
And so this record for me was a kind of _ _ moving into a higher melodic kind of territory.
[A] Through my [G] back porch, off [G] the top of a [Em] tall [A] building, I'd rather [C] done it with you.
_ _ _ _ _ [B] _ Writing songs is the best form of expression that I have found, or the most satisfying form of expressing _ _ feelings, emotions, [C] _ _ strong feelings about anything from love to politics to whatever.
It's the _ best way I have found of saying [A] what's inside. _

[C] _ _ _ [Am] For [Em] me to enjoy [C] an album, I [G] need to be emotionally [C] moved by it.
I [A] need to be shocked by it in [Am] some way and [Bm] feel [C] inspired to get up [A] and do something.
I'm not doing what I'm doing [C] to hear [A] what other people, [Am] particularly [Em] critics, have to say really.
I'm trying to just _ _ respond honestly to what I'm trying to do with my artwork and my creativity.
It's all part, not wanting to sound like some kind of new age freak or something, but you have to keep your heart in the right place.
I need and have to explore what I can do.
_ What other people think of that is kind of a by-project really that I don't spend a lot of time listening to.
