[G] We got into slight difficulty here.
I am confronted with a symphony orchestra who say they are going to play Mozart.
Could you elucidate that?
Mozart's hornpipe concerto, or
Gerard Grant, is that right, Gerard?
Yes.
Could you explain?
There seems to be a little difficulty about this.
Yeah, well, it's not a bad piece, and he wasn't a bad composer, the old Mozart himself,
but I think he robbed tunes the same as his old, from the old folk music.
And also, one of his favourite tenors was a fella called, a Dubliner, of [N] course, Michael Kelly.
And he used to sing for him over there, at the Marriage of Figaro and all that.
Is this true?
This is absolutely true.
It's in the book.
No, what happened was, I'm convinced that he gave him a jig called the Piper's Chair.
To Mozart?
Yes.
Kelly gave to Mozart.
That's right.
And Mozart, you know, sort of pinched it.
It must have been in the back of his mind when he wrote
You got a bang of it in the back of his mind.
The horn concerto.
So we've done a little bit of a mixture, like scrambled eggs and all that sort of thing.
And he wrote the horn concerto?
Well, you never know.
I mean, judge for yourself.
All right, I will.
So what is this called then?
Plankstie Mozart.
Thanks, Timothy.
Yes, Professor, in your own time, thank you.
Gerard Grant, conducting the Symphony Orchestra.
