Start Jamming...
How to play Pompeii by Bastille on the keyboard and piano.
So this song is really easy to learn so I hope you enjoy the tutorial and let's just get started.
Also before we start if you didn't already know I've made a blog called
moompmusicpiano.blogspot.co.uk
A link in the description box.
So I made it because I'm aware that many of you prefer to use the notes without the video.
So you can access the notes I use in my videos and some extra songs on there.
So let's begin with learning Pompeii.
So I'm going to teach you the song in sections and the first section is the intro.
So this is how it sounds put together.
[A]
[B]
[E] [D]
[A]
[B]
[A] [C#] Okay so that's how it sounds.
Now it's nice and simple.
For the first [D] line you play.
So it's D D A D A.
[A] For the second line you play [C#] C sharp C [A] sharp A C sharp A.
The next line is the exact same.
And the [G#] final line [B] is [A]
[B] [F#] B A [A] B A.
And [N] that's all for the intro.
You play those four lines twice.
Now this is how verse one sounds so it's very short [C#m] it's just this.
[B]
[E] [C#m]
[B] [E] [C#]
So for the first line you play.
[C#m]
[B] [E]
[C#m] So it's C sharp C sharp E C sharp C sharp E C sharp C [B] sharp B A [E] B E.
[C#m]
[C#]
[A] [B] [E]
[C#m] And then you play.
[B] [E] [C#]
So it's C sharp C [C#m] sharp E C sharp C sharp C sharp E C sharp C sharp [B]
B B [F#] A B [C#m] C sharp.
Okay it's like a tongue twister all those C sharps.
But yeah that was the verse one.
I'll play that final line again.
[C#] [C#]
[N] So just then I played one B instead of two like I did before.
I don't know you just play whatever you think sounds best.
I think one B sounds better.
Okay so after you play verse one we're going to play the pre-chorus.
So this is how the pre [E]-chorus sounds.
[F#m]
[A]
[G#] [F#m] [G#]
[E] [A] [F#m]
[E] [B]
[G#] [F#m]
[G#] [E] Okay so that's how the pre-chorus sounds.
So for the first line you play.
[F#m] [A]
So it's [F#m] E F sharp A F sharp A F [E] sharp E A.
[F#m]
[A] The second line is.
[G#]
[F#m] [G#]
So [A] it's A A [B] B [A] A A [B] B [A] A [G#] G sharp [F#] F sharp A [G#] G sharp.
[A]
[F#m] [G#]
The third line is.
[E] [A]
[F#]
[A] Then the fourth [G#m] line is.
[F#]
[G#] [F#m]
[G#] [A]
[B] [A] [Bm]
[A] [G#] [F#m]
[G#] [A] And [F#]
that is all for the pre [D#]-chorus.
This is how the chorus sounds.
[A]
[F#]
[A]
[F#]
[C#] [C#]
[B] [A]
[C#] [A]
Okay so that's all for the chorus.
So for the first line you play.
So it's A A A [C#] C [B] sharp B A.
The next line is.
So that's [A] longer it's just A A [C#m] E C [B] sharp B [A] A E C sharp [B] B A B.
[Am]
[B] [A] [B] And then you [A] play.
[A]
So it's A A A [C#] C [B] sharp B A [A] B A.
[B]
And then you go to play.
[C#m]
[B] [C#]
[A] So it's A A E C sharp [B]
B [A] A E C sharp B A B [C#] C sharp.
[A]
[B] [C#]
The [A] final two lines go.
[B]
So that was the first one.
So [A] it was A [C#] seven C sharps and then [A] A [C#] C sharp C sharp C [B] sharp B.
[A] [C#]
[A] [C#] [B]
[G#] And then the final line [A] goes.
[C#] [A] [C#m]
[Em] [A] So it's A [C#] five C sharps [A] A [C#m] C sharp E C [C#] sharp B C sharp [A] B A.
[C#]
[A] [C#]
[N]
Okay so that's all for the chorus.
So this is how verse two sounds.
It's just as short as verse one but it is playing different notes.
So this is how [C#m] it goes.
[B] [E]
[C#m]
[B]
[E] Okay [C#m] so for that first line it was the same as the first line of verse one.
So it's
[B] [E]
[C#] C sharp C [E] sharp E [C#] C sharp C sharp [C#m] C sharp E C sharp C sharp [B] B [B] A.
B [E] E.
And then the second line in that verse [C#m] is.
[F#] [C#m] [B]
[E] So it's [C#m] C sharp C sharp E C sharp C sharp C sharp E [F#] F sharp [C#m] E C [B] sharp B A B.
[E]
[C#m]
[F#] [B]
[E] [E]
Okay and then after that you're going [A] to play the pre-chorus again,
the chorus again, [G#] the intro again and then we're going to play the bridge.
This is the last thing I'm going to teach you.
So this is how the bridge sounds put together.
[A]
[B] [C#] [F#m]
[A] [B]
[C#] [E]
[B] [C#] [F#m]
[C#m] [A] [B]
Okay so that's how it sounds.
Now for the first line I played.
[E]
[C#] So I played [A] A E [F#] F [A] sharp A [B]
B B [C#] C sharp.
[B] [C#]
Then [F#m] you're going to play.
[A]
[B]
You play [A] A [F#m] F [C#m] sharp E C sharp [B] A B.
[F#m]
[E] [A]
[B] And then you're [C#] going to play.
[A]
[B] [C#]
So you play C sharp B [A] A A [F#] E F sharp [A] [B] A B [C#] B C sharp.
[A]
[A] [B] [C#]
And then [F#m] finally it's [A] [B]
[F#m] A F sharp [A] E C sharp [B] A B.
[F#m] [A]
[B] Okay and that [N] is all for the bridge.
So after you play the bridge play the pre-chorus again and the chorus again and that is the end.
So I hope you like this tutorial and I hope it helped you in some way.

Okay it's like a tongue twister all those C sharps.
But yeah that was the verse one.
I'll play that final line again. _

I don't know you just play whatever you think sounds best.
I think one B sounds better.
Okay so after you play verse one we're going to play the pre-chorus.

[F#m] _ _ _
_ _ [A] _ _ _ _ _ _

_ [E] _ _ [A] _ _ _ [F#m] _ _
[E] _ _ _ _ _ _ [B] _ _
_ _ _ [G#] _ _ [F#m] _ _ _
[G#] _ _ _ _ _ [E] Okay so that's how the pre-chorus sounds.
So for the first line you play. _
[F#m] _ _ _ _ _ _ [A] _ _
_ _ So it's [F#m] E F sharp A F sharp A F [E] sharp E A.
_ _ [F#m] _ _ _ _
[A] _ _ _ _ The second line is.
_ _ _ _ _ _ [G#] _
_ [F#m] _ _ _ [G#] _ _ _

[A] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [F#m] _ _ _ [G#] _ _
_ _ The third line is.
[E] _ [A] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

This is how the chorus sounds.
[A] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [F#] _ _
_ [A] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [F#] _ _ _ _ _

[B] _ _ _ [A] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [C#] _ _ _ _ [A] _ _
_ _ Okay so that's all for the chorus.
So for the first line you play. _ _ _ _ _
_ _ So it's A A A [C#] C [B] sharp B A. _ _ _
_ _ _ _ The next line is. _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ So that's [A] longer it's just A A [C#m] E C [B] sharp B [A] A E C sharp [B] B A B. _ _
_ _ _ _ [Am] _ _ _ _
[B] _ _ [A] _ [B] _ _ _ And then you [A] play.
_ _ _ _ _ [A] _ _
_ So it's A A A [C#] C [B] sharp B A [A] B A.
_ _ _ _ [B] _ _ _ _
_ _ And then you go to play. _ _
_ _ [C#m] _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [B] _ _ _ [C#] _ _ _
[A] So it's A A E C sharp [B]
B [A] A E C sharp B A B [C#] C sharp.
[A] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[B] _ _ _ _ [C#] _ _ _
The [A] final two lines go. _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [B] _
So that was the first one.
So [A] it was A [C#] seven C sharps and then [A] A [C#] C sharp C sharp C [B] sharp B.
[A] _ _ [C#] _ _ _
[A] _ _ [C#] _ _ [B] _ _ _ _
_ _ [G#] And then the final line [A] goes. _
[C#] _ _ _ _ [A] _ _ [C#m] _ _
_ [Em] _ _ _ [A] _ _ So it's A [C#] five C sharps [A] A [C#m] C sharp E C [C#] sharp B C sharp [A] B A.
_ _ [C#] _ _
_ _ [A] _ _ _ [C#] _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [N] _ _ _
Okay so that's all for the chorus.
_ _ So this is how verse two sounds.
It's just as short as verse one but it is playing different notes.
So this is how [C#m] it goes. _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [B] _ _ _ _ [E] _ _ _
[C#m] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [B] _ _ _
[E] _ _ _ _ Okay [C#m] so for that first line it was the same as the first line of verse one.
So it's
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [B] _ _ _ [E] _ _ _ _
[C#] _ C sharp C [E] sharp E [C#] C sharp C sharp [C#m] C sharp E C sharp C sharp [B] B [B] A.
B _ [E] E.
_ _ _ _ And then the second line in that verse [C#m] is. _ _ _ _ _
_ [F#] _ _ _ _ [C#m] _ _ [B] _
_ _ [E] _ _ _ _ So it's [C#m] C sharp C sharp E C sharp C sharp C sharp E [F#] F sharp [C#m] E C [B] sharp B A B.
[E] _ _
_ _ [C#m] _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [F#] _ _ _ _ _ [B] _ _
[E] _ _ [E] _ _ _ _ _ _
Okay and then after that you're going [A] to play the pre-chorus again,
the chorus again, [G#] the intro again and then we're going to play the bridge.
This is the last thing I'm going to teach you.
So this is how the bridge sounds put together.
[A] _ _ _ _
_ [B] _ _ _ [C#] _ _ [F#m] _ _
_ _ [A] _ _ _ _ [B] _ _
_ [C#] _ _ [E] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [B] _ _ [C#] _ _ [F#m] _ _
_ [C#m] _ _ _ [A] _ _ [B] _ _
_ _ Okay so that's how it sounds.
Now for the first line I played.
[E] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [C#] _ _ _ So I played [A] A E [F#] F [A] sharp A [B]
B B [C#] C sharp. _ _ _
_ [B] _ _ _ [C#] _ _ _ _
Then [F#m] you're going to play.
_ _ [A] _ _
_ _ _ _ [B] _ _ _ _
You play [A] A [F#m] F [C#m] sharp E C sharp [B] A B.
_ [F#m] _
_ _ [E] _ _ _ _ [A] _ _
_ [B] _ _ _ _ _ And then you're [C#] going to play.
_ [A] _ _ _ _ _
_ [B] _ _ _ [C#] _ _ _ _
_ So you play C sharp B [A] _ A A [F#] E F sharp [A] _ [B] A B [C#] B C sharp.
_ _ [A] _ _ _ _
[A] _ _ [B] _ _ [C#] _ _ _ _
_ And then [F#m] finally _ it's [A] _ _ _ _ _ [B] _ _ _
_ [F#m] A F sharp [A] E C sharp [B] A B. _ _ _ _
[F#m] _ _ _ [A] _ _ _ _ _
[B] _ _ _ Okay and that [N] is all for the bridge.
So after you play the bridge play the pre-chorus again and the chorus again and that is the end.
So I hope you like this tutorial and I hope it helped you in some way.
