Our next guests the post-punk group preoccupations just performed today
So let's say hello and find out how it went.
Hey guys.
Hello.
Hello.
Hello.
How was how was your [F#] Coachella performance?
Um, it was early got up at [B] six o'clock this morning
[F#] Drove from LA to get here nine o'clock loaded.
Okay, so it was an early one
It was fun.
It was fun, actually.
Yeah
Well, you know, I'm a big fan
Your music to me has a dark power which is in stark contrast to your affable personalities
How do you how do you reconcile that and [Gm] you know, or does one balance [F#] the other?
[F#m] That's a tough one.
Not everyone would say we have
[G] Maybe we just have like [F#m]-mindedness between maybe between us.
It's working a lot of people despise our personalities
What's your [F#] happiest song
Throw it away, maybe throw it away.
We have a song called throw it away.
That was one of the first things we recorded
[D]
[F#]
No, that's maybe the happiest one we don't ever play it anymore because
It's so damn happy
[D] [B] So for for me your music [G] always
You know kind of [F] references bands like Joy Division [E] Echo and the Bunnymen [F#] wire
Sort of that era of post-punk and new wave
Do you think you're part of a new [F#m] movement in that sound or is your band just [E] an isolated anxiety?
Anxiety [D#] spasm, it's kind of tough to say.
I mean we have some
Some kin in the music industry
There's a couple of bands that I feel like are kind of on the same page as us not at a festival like this
We were kind of sandwiched in between DJs.
Yeah
I don't know if that's just how it goes here.
It's our first time being here.
But [B] uh, we have a few
I don't [F#] know like-minded bands, I guess kind of a savages.
It's amazing [G#] to see [A] Savages
Absolutely.
[G] I think they're drawing from a lot of the [F#m] same stuff as us.
I hear that
Proto-martyr really good friends from Detroit's and they're kind of drawing from a lot of the same influences as well
I think you're if I'm not mistaken, you're from Calgary, right?
We're all from Calgary.
We're not you don't live there anymore
I see that's kind of where this
If [F#] we could recommend one song for our audience to hear [F#m] right now if they could just go to
An [F#] online Spotify whatever and listen to one song pre-occupation
[Dm] [F#] [D]
[G#] The units high-pressure [F#] days would be a great one to go from yeah
Listen to that instead one of our songs though.
Yeah
Can I tell you you know my recommendation my favorite two songs are memory and stimulation
I remember we played a live thing on your show
And we played simulation.
We kind of a train [F] wrecked it
So [D#] happy you made it yeah, I was happy we made it to that
Makes [E] the hair [D] on the back of my neck [F#] stand up in a good in a good way
Thank you, but also I love memory because the the [D#] arrangement is just so out there
I feel like that's maybe a good one to start from it kind of covers all the bases.
Yeah, but
Kind of where we're [F#] a lot of weirdo guitar playing a lot of weird time signature stuff and a [B] lot of different changes
[N] There's you know three or four different songs kind of in one [F#] song
Preoccupations, you know I love what you guys are doing so keep it rocking
Any one band recommendation for people to see [D#] or that you're looking forward to seeing as to Coachella?
Oh new order [F#] is the one that we're the most excited about
[G] [E] That's playing that I've heard of
[G]
So let's say hello and find out how it went.
Hey guys.
