[C] Hi, I'm Bill from Guitar Center.
[E] Let's have a look today at the [G] Taylor T5Z Custom.
[C] [D]
The T5Z is what's known as a hybrid guitar.
The reason it's a hybrid guitar [Am] is because it combines elements of both [D] an electric guitar and an acoustic [C] guitar.
This is an acoustic guitar bridge.
It produces tone like an acoustic [Am] guitar.
But as you can see right here is an electric guitar pickup.
And there's another one [F] up here underneath the fingerboard.
And in the body is the [G] acoustic guitar body sensor.
[C] [Am] The T5Z is [Em] made in El Cajon, California.
It's made of Sapele on the body.
[C] And the top as you can [Am] see is a superb piece of Koa.
[Em] [Am] [F] The neck on the [Am] T5Z attaches to the body in a unique way with a single bolt.
[G] The fingerboard and bridge are made of ebony.
The body [C] and the neck and the [G] headstock are all bound [Am] in a white plastic binding.
It really sets off the contrast between the beautiful Koa, the [F] darkness of the Sapele body and the cool white binding.
[C]
So how does this guitar [Am] provide you as a player with both acoustic and electric sounds?
[F] Well, I talked a minute about the pickups themselves.
But in addition to the pickup [G] and the active preamp that [Am] controls everything is a switch here that has five positions.
So [F] let's listen to the sounds that are produced by each of these five [G] positions.
Now I will note that the first position which is [C] the acoustic guitar position is played through an acoustic guitar amplifier.
[Am] The other positions which are the electric guitar sounds are played [F] through an electric guitar amplifier.
The first sound is the acoustic guitar sound.
It [G] uses the body sensor which is the acoustic pickup in combination with the humbucking pickup [C] that is underneath the fingerboard.
It's not visible but trust me it's there.
[E] [F#]

[B] [A] [E] [F#]
The second position uses that same humbucking pickup by itself.
This position sounds like a standard single coil solid body electric guitar.
And of course you can tailor the sound with the volume, bass and treble controls on the T5.

[E] [A]
[C] [F] So let's check out [B] position number three.
This position uses the bridge pickup by itself.
Now this is a double coil pickup so it's a humbucking style.
This position is great for playing into an amp with some distortion.
Where you can sound like a single coil equipped solid body guitar but with a nice edge [A] to it.
Now [Am]
[Em]
[Am] [A] let's look at position number four.
This is a combination of the neck pickup and the bridge pickup and they are wired in parallel.
This [D#] is a great setting for clean finger style playing [F#] like you would do on an archtop guitar.

[F#m] [A] [A]
[E] [A] Position number five is again comprised of the neck and [F#] the bridge pickup but this time wired in series.
This is great for powerful distortion tone.
Great for metal, anything that requires a lot of power because you've got the full force of both pickups behind [A] it.
