[D] Hey, what's up you guys?
Marty Schwartz here with [G] Marty Music.
We're going to learn this REM tune and I'm going to teach it to you using this awesome
Black Mountain pick.
They're the sponsor of this video, so a huge shout out to them.
Also check them out in the link below.
It's a great pick that you can use both as a finger pick on your thumb, but then also
you can just hold onto it right like a flat pick for lead guitar at the same time, you
know, without having to change [Dm] anything.
[D]
[E]
So anyway, check it out in the link below and let's learn the tune.
All right, so the verse is a D to a G chord with a nice finger pattern.
[G]
So it's the G with the ring finger on the third of the B, pinky on the third of the
high E, third, [Em] second on the [G] A.
Well, he's not really picking that A string, but anyway.
Get the idea?
So now if you don't have a thumb pick, you know, just use your thumb.
So the D pattern is just literally up and down the strings.
D, G, B, E, B, G, D, D, D, D, D, D, D, D, D, D, D, D, D, D, D, D, D, D, D, D, D, D,
D, D, D, D, D,
[G] D, D, D, D.
[D] And before it switches to the G chord, you want to take that index finger off because
I can, you can hear the open G there.
Like,
[G]
and so the G pattern is you hit the E string and then D, G, high E, B, so, and then again.
[D] Back to D.
[G]
And the pattern is pretty easy.
So I'm using my right, you know, I'm using my [D] index, middle and ring finger, which I
don't always do but for this song it's not too hard to use it.
[G]
Okay so now [D] we're
[Em] gonna play a walk down to E minor so you [G] hit that E string and then DG as far as
the strings go.
E D G [F#m] index goes down to second fret and you do the same pattern
[G]
and then E minor chord same pattern as the G [E] chord [Em] and then the A major is the
next [A] chord and that is the same pattern but you just have to start with the open
A string so it's the same pattern as the G and E minor but except for that first
note which is the open A string because it's an A chord.
[Em] [E] [Em]
[A]
[E] [Em]
[D]
[G]
Alright so there's
another section so the bridge is an F sharp [F#] but you can make it an F sharp 7
so like a major chord take the pinky off to B minor [Bm]
[F#]
[E] and you can go oh one two
into the chord and [Bm]
then up the C [C] major to G [G] and [C] C and [A]
[Am] [C] a walk down to A minor so
I mean [B] [Am]
[C] or [B] [Am] just [G] like we did with that G minor [C] earlier it's with the C chord three
[Bm] two on the A string oh my
[C] [Am] [A]
[D]
[G]
[D]
[D]
[G]
[D] [Dm]
[D#] Jimmy [E] Hendrix take on over all right there was the
lesson hope you guys got something out of it once again huge [E] shout out the
