[Gm] [G]
[Gm]
Lightning flashed in hoops and circles.
Rain and sheets was coming down.
Thunder rattled through the gulches
as the hoofbeats shook the ground.
Cowhands riding hail for leather,
begging God for the break of day.
The stampede beats the best camp meeting
[F] for getting men to [Gm] pray.
[Bb] When I was but a young [Gm] lad,
I was wild and full of fire.
[Bb] A youth within my teens,
but full of challenge and desire.
I ran away from home and [Gm] left my mother and my [Eb] dad.
I know [F] it gave them so to [Gm] think their only boy was bad.
[Bb] I fell in with an outlaw band,
[Gm] their names were known quite well.
[Bb] How many times they robbed and [Gm] plundered,
I could never tell.
[Bb] This kind of sinful living [Gm] leads only to a fall.
[Eb] I learned this [F] much and more the night [Gm] I heard the master's call.
[Eb] One night we rustled cattle, a thousand [Bb] head or so,
[Eb] and started them [Bb] out on the trail [Gm] that leads to Mexico.
[Eb] When an orther [F] started blowing, lightning flashed [Bb] about.
I thought someone [Eb] was calling [F] me.
I thought I heard [Bb] a shout.
At that moment lightning struck [F] not 20 yards from [Eb] me.
And it left there was a giant [Bb] cross where once there was a tree.
And this time I knew I heard a [F] voice, a voice so sweet and strange.
[Gm] A voice that called from everywhere, a voice that called my name.
[Bb] So frightened I was thinking [Gm] of sinful deeds I'd done.
[Bb] I fell to save a thousand [Gm] head of cattle start to run.
[Bb] The cattle they stampeded [Gm] were running all around.
[Eb] My pony [F] ran but stumbled [Gm] and he threw me to the ground.
[Eb] I felt the [Bb] end was nearing, that death would be the price.
[Eb] When a mighty [Bb] bolt of lightning [Gm] showed the face of Jesus Christ.
[Eb] I cried, oh [F] Lord, [Bb] don't let it happen now.
I want to [Eb] live for you [F] alone.
Oh God, these [Bb] words I've vowed.
My wicked past had fallen [F] and I thought I wasted years.
[Eb] When another bolt of lightning [Bb] killed a hundred head of steers.
[Gm] And the others rushed home by [F] me and I was left to live.
[Gm] The master had a reason life is his to take or give.
[G] [Bb]
A miracle performed that [Gm] night I wasn't meant to die.
[Bb] The dead was formed a [Gm] barricade lay six or seven high.
[Bb] Right behind them there was [Gm] I afraid but safe and sound.
[Eb] I cried and [C] begged for mercy [Gm] kneeling there upon the ground.
[Bb]
Pardon I was granted, [Gm] my sinful soul set free.
[Bb] No more to fear the angry waves, [Gm] the long life storm he saved.
Forgiven by the love of God, [Gm] a love that will remain.
[Eb] I gave my [F] life and soul the night [Gm] the Savior called my name.
[Eb] I gave my life [F] and soul the [Gm] night the Savior [F] called my name.
He called my name.
