Start Jamming...
We got a tune over here that I asked Ray to go on over to the big Baldwin piano
and he finally said, okay I'll tell you what I'll do, I'll do Misty.
Was this something you planned or was this an accident, a jam session on a session?
You sound like you've heard the story, it was an accident. I haven't.
Well it was an accident, we were rehearsing for me and my road band for a television show that
we're going to shoot the next day here in Nashville and we were rehearsing in my little studio
and just for kicks during one of the breaks in rehearsal we started clowning around with Misty
because it was you know such a classic jazz piece with all the major seventh chords and all that
and we started doing it with the banjo and the fiddle and steel and doggone it started
sounding good and I called the engineer, he was at home, I said get over here we want to record this
so he jumped in the car and came down and we took two takes and then overdubbed the voices
out of the band guys that sung background on stage with me and we cut the thing in about an hour and
sure enough it was a it was a it won a grammy that year for the best arrangement of the year.
I'm not surprised.
One of those flukes as they say.
And I like this version better than Johnny Mathis's.
[B] Well John are you ready?
[D] Go ahead.
Look at me.
I'm a self [Em]-assessed kitten [G] of a tree.
[Gm] I'm walking on a cloud.
[D] I can't understand [Bm] love.
[A] I'm Misty [D]
holding your [G] hand.
[D] Walk my way [Am] and a thousand [D] violins [G] begin to play.
Oh [Gm] remind me the sound of your hello.
[D] That music I hear [Em] alone.
I'm [A] Misty the [D] moment you're near.
You can say [Am] that you're leaving me on.
But it's just [G] what I want you to do.
Yet you notice [Bm] how hopelessly I'm lost.
That's [E] why I'm [A] following
[E] you.
[A] [D]
[Am] You should have wandered [D] through this [G] wonderland alone.
Never [Gm] knowing right foot from the left.
[D] My hat from the glove.
[G] I'm [A] just dead too [D] much in love.
[Am] [D] Oh [D] well done.
[Am] [D] [G]
[Gm] [C] [D]
[Bm] You [A]
[D] can say [Am] that you're leaving me on.
[D] But it's just [G] what I want you to do.
Would you notice [Bm] how hopelessly I'm lost.
That's [E] why I'm following [A]
you.
[A] [D]
[Am] Should have wandered [D] through this [G] wonderland alone.
Never [Gm] knowing right foot from the left.
[D] My hat from the glove.
[Em] I'm [A] just dead too [D] much in love.
[C] Too [D] much in love.
[C] Too [D] much in love.
[C] [D]
