That's going to be a free download as soon as I figure out how to do that.
You won't tell me.
[C] I know when you're doing this [G] tour with Slade Cleves, right?
Slade's [N] got this great record out, it's called Broke Down.
He's got this song here called Give Me One Good Year.
Slade [A] explained how he wrote this song.
He said it's going to go through a really bad [Ab] period in his life.
[G] Things were not going well.
Things were so bad [D] that he desperationally fell down on his knees
[Gb] and threw out this prayer, Give Me One Good Year.
And he took that [Eb] prayer and he wrote it in powerful words.
He put it in this beautiful melody and he sang this song.
[C] I was so moved by it.
I said, that's something I should take a prayer and write a song.
Until I realized the [Eb] only prayer I know is God.
He gave me out of this a box of [B] ideas.
[G]
We've just worked four times.
The fifth time's the longest [A] we've worked.
I'm a young man, I want [C] a very nice job.
I'm
[A] a young [N] man, I want to have a little [G] spot there.
I just did whatever.
I didn't know what to do.
I was [C] desperate, I was scared.
Somebody said, you need to go [N] talk to a priest.
A preacher saw this old preacher guy and said, man, I've got these hot checks.
He said, [D] turn them over to God.
I thought, no, [Gb] that's a motive.
Turn them [G] over to God?
No.
[Eb] [C] It [G]
didn't work out.
I'm going to [C] paraphrase this with a quote [A] that's attributed to Woody [G] Gathegen.
It's a folksy job, even if you [Abm] play an electric [G] guitar
to comfort distorted people and to disturb comfortable people.
I can't believe myself.
It's catchy to feel.
It's like going to the spa.
You don't want to go to the gym.
You don't need no line of love.
You can hardly hear the rain standing out.
The camera's on the last stall.
You ain't going to need that leather jacket.
It's a style of war.
[D] They're going to lock you in.
There's no way out.
It looks like a heavy state.
[G] All the ways in the mess, it's over for everyone.
We're coming for you today.
I said, oh man, wait a minute.
Well, there's got to be something wrong.
Because I ain't no bad guy.
I just write me a little song.
I always tell you the things that I say in the back of the lane.
You say, well, now, how about a little cocaine?
I [D] said, hell, yeah, I got no reason for being in hell.
[G] I didn't use the cocaine, and I just like the way it felt.
They call me old John.
You know, we ran out of old man's where to put the TV.
I never liked those plans.
The kids always blamed me for everything wrong.
I was the son.
You know, it ain't that hard to do what I planned.
It's not that much fun.
[D] And then later, we walked around, thinking everything that he meant.
He [G] used the old song, and he called me old Joe Rood.
He was like, sit down, boy.
I was born on a side of the lake beside the old Spire of Maine.
But I was closer to a politician than a dog on a cane.
Now I have a two-way jail again for all of the staff and kids.
[Gm] It's good to know I'm hooking one Friday.
I don't know why I'm here.
[D] I'm a dad, and I need to get that off.
And a man who's always been a son to me might [G] be a better sick child.
Someone who's been a good.
But everybody [Gm] down here said, we've got a son.
All these different mystics, saints and beauties.
And they say, come on, [G] we will root out any gangster, sheriff, or crime.
We will not send five evil old souls from Rio Soto to a bigger jail.
[D] Or you won't find out you're a member of the Christian, Polish, and [G] Romanian service.
This country programed to represent a national figure in Texas.
I felt like I was going to be shot.
I was on a hunk of money, well, suck up, you know.
I said, hey, remember that song that Charlie Daniels did about how you went down to Georgia?
And he said, [D] yeah, it broke my heart.
But what are you going to do?
I [G] said, well, I'm going to break my thoughts, your soul.
Better off than you.
I'm still good.
Yeah, I woke up.
And I was lying in my bed.
So I read all the sins and kissed my little boy.
I was sleeping in bed.
I could be dreaming, I decided it wasn't God.
So I thought I better pray.
I said, don't ever speak to me directly.
I think she's a lady, [D] so let's not speak about it.
Besides, she's giving up her envy.
We have some good news for y'all this week.
[G] Good news, baby.
