[F#] So, I'm going to talk about my dad, my father.
[C#] Well, actually, let me start off by saying that my mom is the most [A#m] amazing person I [D#m] know.
I just want to make sure that, you know, [Bm] my dad's not the one getting all the love.
[F#] I'm one of eight siblings, and we're all somehow involved in full-time [C#] ministry, which is amazing in itself.
And, you know, I attribute [A#] that to my mom.
[D#m] And for my dad's 70th birthday [B] party, my mom called me and asked me to write a song for my dad.
[D#m] And I remember saying to her, [A#m] Mom, [B] writing songs ain't just that easy, you know.
[F#] But you know, [C#] I decided obviously I'm going to sit [D#m] down and try to do this.
And basically all the [F#] songs on this project, I [C#] wrote them in an [B] extremely difficult [F#] season
of my life.
So, it's like every song is [C#] kind of laced with pain, or at least [D#m] written from a [A#m] painful place.
When I sat [D#m] in my piano [B] to write this song, it just came [F#] rushing into my head, probably
faster than [G#] any song I've [C#] ever written.
And this one is also laced with pain, [Dm] because the [D#m] chorus says, [F#] And when [C#] times got hard,
[B] you taught me how to worship God.
And I'm [F#] talking about my dad.
[C#] So I feel the need to explain.
I just feel the need to explain one line in the song so that [D#m] everyone that [A#m] listens isn't totally lost.
[B] There's a line in the pre-chorus that [C#] says, But you [F#] placed inside of me a storm [C#] kit that
I've held on to, my own proverbial red blanket.
[A#m] When I first sang [D#m] this song to my siblings, [B] they immediately knew exactly what I was referring to.
[F#] When I was little, [C#] I remember coming downstairs in the middle of the night to use the bathroom.
[F#] And [C#] I remember [D#m] seeing my dad in the living room on his knees [B] praying.
And he always [C#] had this red blanket wrapped around him.
[F#] He called it his prayer blanket.
[D#] And [C#] I remember him saying to me as a child that the red [D#m] was [A#m] for the blood of Jesus.
[B] This song is just really [F] an emotional [F#] song for me.
I remember while I was writing it, [C#] shedding a couple tears as I was [F] singing it.
[D#m] So I just decided, [A#m] man, I got to [A#] record this.
[F#] So here's Red Blanket, [C#] When Times Got Hard.
