Hi everybody, welcome back to Mando lessons.
In this lesson
I'm gonna do a little play along with you with the tune Red-Haired Boy, a great old-time tune that also gets played in bluegrass
traditions where people pass the melody back and forth, maybe play a break, a little melodic variation, things like that.
Play chords while the other person's playing the melody or solo.
So what I'm gonna do is play through it five times and
first time I'll play the melody, you play the chords.
Second time you play the melody, I'll play the chords.
Third time
I'll play the melody, you play the chords.
Fourth time you're playing the melody, I'm playing chords.
And the fifth time we will both play
melody at the same time.
[D] So
[G] that said, let's jump into it.
Great tune in the key of A, Red-Haired Boy.
If you want to work on
variations, I think a great time to do it is when I'm [N] playing chords,
but it's also just as good just to play the melody while I'm playing chords.
I'll play it at a sort of medium speed.
If it's going too
fast for you, you can hit the little gear in the bottom corner of the video and
slow it down to 50 or 75 percent and get it to a place that feels good and comfortable to you.
If you want to speed it up, you can also do the same thing.
Put it at
125 percent.
There's a couple options down there, but speed isn't the point.
It's more about passing
melodies back and forth and having a good time.
[A] So,
[E] Red-Haired Boy, key of A.
Here we go.
I'll take the first
melody and then you take the chords and then you take the melody the second time through.
One, two, three, four.
