[Fm] [F] Hey everybody, it's Rick Braun and I am talking to you from Brautasaurus Studios here in Woodland Hills.
I've got lights flashing behind me to give the impression that I'm doing something, but
I'm actually here to talk to you.
This is the first of a series of Ask Rick that we're going to be putting up on my friends
and fans page on Facebook.
These are questions that come from all of you and I'll answer anything within reason
and try to give you some information and what [N] I don't know the answer to I'll definitely
make something up.
Let's start out with a question that was asked about my horns.
My horns are made by Joe Marcinkiewicz in Canby, Oregon.
Joe and I have been friends for many, many years.
I have all kinds of stories about Joe and he has all kinds of stories about me so I'm
not going to start because he can post things too.
The point is Joe is an amazing craftsman, a dear friend.
He cares so much about what he does.
Every detail counts.
Isn't it beautiful?
It's a really beautiful horn.
The bell is a five inch bell.
It's made of commercial bronze which Joe tells me is bronze but there's a very high copper
content and of course if you need to know specifics about my horns you can always go
to marcinkiewicz.com and it's spelled like this.
Get your pencil out.
It's spelled marcinkiewicz .com.
Once you're on there go to the artist page and you'll see my trumpet there and all of the specs.
Let me tell you a little bit about it.
It's got an oversized bell.
There's a five inch bead on the bell and it's got a large bore lead pipe.
The lead pipe is where the mouthpiece connects and goes into the horn.
Those two elements of the horn I think have the most impact on the way the horn sounds
and both of these segments of the horn are oversized.
It's a medium large bore horn and my mouthpiece is also a Joe Marcinkiewicz Signature Series mouthpiece.
Let me put that close up there and you can see it's the Symphonic Series.
This mouthpiece, these ridges help to do something with the vibration.
Again you can go on to marcinkiewicz.com and check out Joe's philosophy behind the mouthpieces.
But they're beautiful.
My particular mouthpiece is gold plated and for me, I mean you can say I'm crazy, but
I can feel the softness of the mouthpiece against my face and for me having to play
a lot in any given night and sometimes having to play without having the luxury of practicing,
it's important for my mouthpiece to feel as comfortable as possible.
Now the horn is finished in a brushed silver finish.
You can see the brushed silver and then the trim pieces are finished in gold plating and
the gold plating is polished.
You can see the valve caps there.
Joe has finished the valve caps off to match my synthetic ruby ring.
It's a carved ruby ring and he and Zach and Yasha, his sons, searched out the right material
to match that and it's that kind of attention to detail that it's just a fantastic instrument.
It has the Amado water keys so it doesn't interrupt the flow of the horn.
The airflow through the horn is a little bit less disturbed and gosh, it's just a beautiful horn.
Let me try to show you some of the engraving on the bell.
Don't know if you can see this or not.
There you go.
You can see it's engraved, all hand engraved by Joe and then you can also see on the receiver
for the mouthpiece.
Let's see if you canmy
name is on there as well.
So this is a wonderful instrument.
Joe calls these horns the Rembrandt series and they are a shepherd's crook design, this
being the shepherd's crook part of the horn.
When I first saw Joe making these horns and went onto his website and saw this design,
I just thought it was just the most beautiful design.
I'm going to back up so you can see the horn and just see how beautiful that looks.
Isn't that beautiful?
And it plays [C] fantastic, you know?
[Bb]
[Gb] [Fm] [Ebm]
[Ab] [Eb] [Gb]
[C] [Bb] [G]

[Ab] Beautiful sound, beautiful sound.
Anyway, that is the end of the first of hopefully many segments.
Hopefully you will like what's going on here and ask me some more questions.
I'll do my best to answer [C] them and if I don't know the answers, I will [C] definitely make something up, okay?
Till then, appreciate all of your support, appreciate [E] you being a member of Rick Brawn,
fans and [G] friends and, [Bb] you know, [F] see you next time.
