Rob Reacts to... The Seekers - I Am Australian: Special Farewell Performance chords
Start Jamming...
Maybe I am Australian by The Seekers should be the [C] national anthem of Australia.
What do you think?
Let me know down in the comments
For a thousand years I've been the first Australian
Straight away in this song it's talking about the people that inhabited the land before the white man came along
They're not hiding away from the history of what is now Australian
And who knows what it was called back then, whatever they called the land, I don't know
But they're not shying away from the facts of history
What a great start
I would say as well I love his voice
It's very soothing isn't it
And with the gentle music, the didgeridoo, the guitar
It's very soothing, I think that's probably the best way I can put it
I came upon a prison ship, [F] bowed down [C] by iron chains
[Am] I fought the land, endured the lash, and [G] waited [C] for the rains
I'm a settler, I'm a farmer's wife [G] on a dry and [Am] barren run
[F] A [C] convict, [D] then a free man, [F] I [G] became [C] Australian
I'm the daughter of a digger [F] who sought the [C] mother
[Am] The girl became a woman [F] on the [G] long and [C] dusty road
I'm a child of her depression, [F] I [G] saw [Am] the good times [F] come
I'm [C] a bushy, I'm [Dm] a fatler, [F] I am [G] [C] Australian
We are one
But we are many
And [Am] from all [G] the lands on earth [C] we come
We'll share a dream
And sing [C] with one voice
[G] I am [G] you [F] but we [G] are [C] Australian
She's got a lovely voice as well hasn't she, she's got a beautiful [N] voice
This sort of song, it's basically, you know, everyone is Australian
It doesn't matter if you work on the fields, if you're a wife of a farmer
If you're a convict, if you're a free man, whatever, any
It doesn't matter if you're bushy, etc
You are all Australian, right?
And I think a song like this makes me want to be patriotic
I'm not patriotic, or patriotic, patriotic
I'm not, you know, I just realise I'm lucky to be born where I am
But a song like this makes me want to be patriotic
And I don't think we have any songs like this
I don't think we have any songs like this in the UK, I'm welcome to be corrected
But this definitely gives you that sense of pride about where you're from
And I don't [C] necessarily have, I don't have that
I'm just lucky to be where I'm born, you know
I'm a teller of stories, [F] I'm a singer [C] of songs
[Am] I am Albert Man of Gironde, [F] and I [G] make your ghost [C] lay down
I'm Clancy on his horse, [F] I'm Ned [G] Kelly [Am] on the run
[C] I'm the one who [Dm] waltzed the Tilden, [F] I [G] am [C] Australian
I'm the hot wind from the desert, [F] I'm the flames
[C] [Am] I'm the mountains and the valleys, [F] I'm the [G] drought and [C] flooding rains
I am the rock in the sky, [F] the rivers [G] when [Am] they write
[F] [C] The spirit of [Dm] this great land, I am [G] [C] Australian
We are one, but we are many
And [Am] from [G] all the lands on earth [C] we come
We'll share a dream, and sing with one voice
[G] I [Am] am, [G] you [F] are, we [G] are [C] Australian
We are one, but we are many
And [Am] from all [G] the lands on earth [C] we [N] come
Now that's a good line isn't it?
From all the lands we come
And I can only assume that is basically meaning about migrants
People from around the world have come to Australia
And when you come to Australia you become Australian
And a part of that society and that life
You are an Australian when you come and you stay
And you be a part of the culture and the society
[C] I think that might be my favourite line
We'll share a dream, and sing with one voice
[G] [Am] [G] You [F] are, we [G] are [C] Australian
[G] I [Am] am, [G] you are, [F] we are [G] Australian
[C]
I [N]
think that was brilliant, that was absolutely brilliant
Maybe I'll have to watch the story of I am Australian by the Seekers
Introduced by Bruce Woodley
As I said, it makes me want to be patriotic for the United Kingdom
I don't have that sort of patriotism
But it makes me want to be
And we don't have songs like this
And I can appreciate if you guys do
You've got this song, you've got Waltz and we'll tell you what
You've got these songs that bring you guys together
I think the only song that brings us together
Is maybe Three Lions on a Shirt by Baddiel and Skinner
But not in the same way
I loved it, I absolutely loved it
What a truly magnificent song
All about inclusivity
You're part of the society, you are Australian
I absolutely loved it, I honestly loved it
That is beautiful
Beautiful song, beautiful singing
Fantastic
Do you think this should be the national anthem?
It's probably a bit long to be a national anthem
But it's very good
Thank you so much for watching
