Grammy winner Rob Thomas is out with his second solo album.
It's called Cradle Song and Rolling Stone has declared its music is
Infectious Rob good morning to you.
Happy New Year, too.
So did you make any resolutions?
Um, I did but I've already forgotten them.
That's good.
That's a good thing.
Then you [Ab] can't break them, right?
Yeah, I made them last night and now they're over [Eb] perfect.
That's the way to do it now cradle song
I know this was an album that was really influenced by Paul [C] Simon's Rhythm of the Saints
How [N] did that music inspire you?
Well, you know, that's where it all started
the opening song the first single her diamonds was kind of like the [F] first song that I wrote that kind of showed me where I
Thought the record was gonna [Gb] go and immediately it had that vibe [N] to it
It kind of like that 80s Paul Simon kind of a feel [A] so I started with that
But [Eb] then somewhere along the way I think it abandoned [G] it and I just wound up making kind of an 80s record
And I took some [E] influences from Duran Duran and [C] some influences from you know
Peter Gabriel and Paul Simon like all the stuff that I was kind of [Eb] listening to growing up
That was my decade
You spent a lot of time this [Gm] past year touring and [E] here across the country, [C] but now you're going on tour in Australia
Yeah, you getting ready practicing your Aussie.
It's pretty easy
It is [C] the most easy to [Abm] assimilate other countries.
Yeah so far away
It's just like a [Gb] bizarro America, you know
You go there and it's just like an like an England kind of [D] vibe is still even a little more American
So yeah, what's it like being out on the road connecting with your fans again?
I love it
I mean, [B] I think I'm one of those people who I feel like the [Gb] reason that I'm by right music
And the reason I make [Gb] records is so I can go out and play it live Yeah
and there's something about you know that real-time [Ab] interaction when you when you see someone who's been living with your record and they come
To a show and you're kind of sharing that [G] moment with them and on a good night
You know you and your band and everybody in that room are kind of on the same [Eb] page in the same moment
That's what's perfect.
Speaking of that real-time interaction.
I know you're a huge like Twitter guy.
Yeah
You did [N] really
What are you saying about anything good?
It's all good things good
