I'm gonna play for you now on a vamp that we've created based on the four
chords that are used in the solo section of a song of mine called Freedom.
It is a
series of four chords C major [Em] 6, E minor [Am] 7, A minor 7, [Bm] B minor 7.
We just play
those over and over and over again.
Now this is [A] the four chord in the key of G.
[Em] This is the six chord, minor six chord key of [Am] G.
Two chord in the key of [Bm] G.
The
three chord in the key of G.
So we [Em] are playing in the key of G.
It's the G major
scale.
That is our harmonic information here.
[Am] So [Em] now [G]
we're gonna be playing in
thirds.
Basically I'll just use thirds throughout in a comping sort of a
manner, a supportive sort of a role.
I'm not soloing and I'm not gonna play
bigger chords.
They're being covered by the acoustic guitar here.
So I'm just
gonna be doing little third, nice little thirds throughout.
So you have the
basic scale.
[E] [Em]
Play it in thirds.
[A] [E] [Em] [Eb]
You want to be able to play these thirds [Am] all [Em] [E] over
the guitar, right?
[G] [D] [Am] [G]
So you'll see me moving around the guitar a lot playing thirds
in different positions all over the guitar.
Nonetheless they will
always be, almost, I'll slip every now and then play something else, but all the
thirds [Bm] of the G major scale.
[Em] Even though there's four different chords here, right?
C major, E minor, A minor, B minor.
You can play straight through all of those
chords with G major scale.
And I'll do that in thirds.
[C] [Em] [Am]
[Bm] [E] [Em] [Am]
[Bm] [C] [Em] [Am]
[Bm] [C] [Em] [Am]
