_ _ [Db] _ _ _ [Ebm] I [Gb] realized that we created something I could never have dreamt of.
I was really looking forward to each day to see what was going to happen.
It was like brand new territory.
It was a real life changing experience. _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [Db] _ _ _
[Eb] _ _ _ [Gb] _ _ It _
_ _ [Bb] _ _ [Db] was a tribute to Medbelly.
We were invited to play and Alison said she'd come [Bbm] along.
We started to rehearse together the day before the [Ab] gig.
We started [Bbm] harmonizing and it sounded possible.
_ _ _ [C] _ _ _
[Db] _ _ _ [Bb] _ _ _ [Bbm] We did about four songs together which was really a great experiment because it proved that we could do it.
[Db] _ It just felt good.
It felt crazy.
[Bb] I went to the rehearsal hall [Bbm]
and immediately he started talking about the mountains and driving [Bb] through the mountains.
He had such a passion for Roots music and a passion for [Bbm] knowledge about music and [Bb] what the music will manipulate him into feeling.
[Bbm] It was fascinating to me because [D] I think about all those things as well.
He had such a passion for wanting more knowledge about music in general.
I thought this was going to be really interesting. _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [G] The way that this could work [A] together is if the material had some sort of thread and that's where T-Bone really [D] _ shined.
Very early on, I think in the first phone conversation, Robert [A] said, because we were talking about a duet record and what is a duet record,
and Robert said maybe this is a project.
He said [D] a duet record.
It gave us a lot more freedom.
[G] I remember getting [Gm] the big batch of material that you sent.
[D] Yeah.
[A] We started trying to figure out [D] maybe this fits.
[N] Everybody was kind of the blind people feeling the elephant.
[Ab] When T-Bone sent the material, he had [N] marked who he thought was doing what.
_ _ I remember [B] I called and I said, I don't know.
[Ab] I don't think I should [Gb] do that.
Robert could really do that.
Me, I don't think so.
[Db] He says, well, [Ab] you both are nervous.
[F] I think that's what I want.
_ [Db] _ _ [Ab] Once [Eb] I had myself a good [Ab] woman, _ but I just didn't need her love.
_ _ I was always_
I found that it was just such a fascinating process because I didn't grow up singing with drums.
I didn't grow up singing with a bunch of different instruments.
I sang with these five and Bluegrass is pretty [Eb] specific where they like that vocal.
To [Bb] step out from that, it's just really getting into a different place.
I was [Abm] intimidated as hell because I really like what [Gb] Allison does,
but [Fm] at the same time, I've been into the Ebony [Gm] Brothers and I've always liked [Db] harmony singing,
but I've never [B] been a part of anything, any band that ever [E] went anywhere near harmony work.
You may put a third on a part of [A] the chorus or something back in the day, but not [E] much.
So it was very intimidating to arrive at Allison's house and sit down [A] on Allison's couch.
[E] And she suggested a key [B] for a song or T-Bone suggested a key and then there was no microphones, no [A] effects.
I'm alright [B] hiding behind the microphone normally.
I can put a bit of slap back on when I feel comfortable, [E] but that was quite daunting.
_ _ [A] _ _ [E] _ _ [A] _ _
_ _ _ [E] _ [A] The idea was to take them both out of their comfort [Ab] zone.
To take us all out of our comfort zones.
[E] We were able to do what we know we're able to [A] do.
Yeah, _ it's fun.
It's fun.
[Gb] It's boring.
After the [N] day one and a half, we had absolute confidence in each other.
I don't think there were many times where we didn't get the mood [Em] in the very first run through.
The [F] application and the performance [Ab] was [F] very naturally arrived at, wasn't it?
Yeah, I think that the personalities in that session, that was just a great call that he made.
Yeah, we just got in a room and [N] faced each other, faced the awful truth.
_ _ _ A lot of that great stuff, if I was doing a vocal and you were in the booth playing,
just a little bit of, if [Eb] you hit the violin twice, you know, or whatever it is,
everybody kind of [Bb] moved.
They hit the quarts and [Eb] changed gears, which was great.
I mean, that was a band working.
Wow!
[Bbm] _ _ _
[Eb] _ [Bbm] Wow!
_ _ [G] Wow!
[Bbm] _
Wow!
For me, [Ebm] the experience of [Ab] this has opened my eyes to [Bb] just a whole other way of approaching music.
You [C] also got this [F] presentation which was quite pointedly, _ musically, coming from a place where I felt [Ab] very, very good.
I look at things very differently and to put myself in a position to sing things that [Eb] I wouldn't have necessarily chosen [Bbm] for myself.
I just [F] loved the experience of it.
I thought it was, I [Eb] wouldn't trade it.
I felt like I really grew more [Bb] musically in that period of time than I don't know how many years could be [Bbm] gained. _ _ _ _ _ _
