Robin Trower Jack & Jill Intro Lesson Tutorial #2 chords
Start Jamming...
Okay everybody, Jack and Jill, this is going to be a redo.
The first one I did, I played it at normal speed and then I slowed it down.
I didn't explain what I was doing and I've had some requests to slow it down and explain
how I'm doing it.
It's off the Victims of the Fury album.
First time I heard it I thought Trauer forgot how to play.
I mean, [E] I said, what the hell is he doing?
This thing is so [F] weird.
But if you think [Gb] about it, it's pretty ingenious, it really is.
I'm tuned down a half a step.
The song itself, Trauer tuned his E string to a D string.
So keep that in mind.
[E] I'm not going to play the whole song, just the intro.
If I get a chance I'll [F] try some of the lead, I don't know.
But [Gb] this song is very difficult to play.
For me it's difficult to play at a slow speed, this riff.
Playing it at normal speed is okay.
I'm having a problem.
I've already done it twice but it [N] didn't work out right.
Pre-bends are what's most important in this song to know.
[Eb] So what I'm doing is I'm pushing up on the B string on the 12th [Fm] fret and [B] the G string
is right [F] there.
Watch it come up.
So you can see the G string come up and then you've got to push down a [Gb] little bit.
It's tough to do slow, not too bad to do fast.
Let me see if I can get [Bbm] through it once quickly, okay?
[Bb]
[Db] [Eb]
[Abm]
[Db] [D]
[Eb] [Ab]
Okay, I do have a wah on.
I got it cocked [Gb] halfway or so.
You guys can figure that out, that's no problem.
But the wah helps, it does make it sound better.
Or more like a charmer did it.
[E] So I'm going to try to slow it down now.
It might take me a couple of shots [Ebm] and I'm probably going to screw it up because it's
tough for me to do it slow.
[Eb] I'm not used to playing that part slow.
So first note [Bb] is a B, it's a B string 10th fret.
I don't know if a lot of guys [Db] out there use three fingers to solo.
And I use four.
[F] I use them all.
But maybe I can get it down both [Db] ways.
I'll try it [F] with three fingers this time.
And [G] that should satisfy [Dm] most of you.
And then [Gbm] if I get [Gb] it, I'll do it with four.
I know I'm going to screw it up so please [Bb]
bear with me.
So the first [Gb] note is a B on the 10th fret.
And then you go to the 12th fret and you've got [Ebm] to bend it a step and a half to bring
it up to a D [Bb] note.
And while I'm bending that B string, this one [Ebm] here, you can see the G string, you can
barely see it, it's coming up with it.
But you've got [F] to just roll your finger to grab that and strike it once and drop it down.
It's [Eb] not an easy riff.
[Bb]
[Eb] Okay, so that was the first one.
So it's [Bb] one time on the B [Abm] string,
[Bb] [Ab]
five [C] times bending it a step and a [Bb] half.
That's the [Gb] first part of the riff [Ab] game.
[Eb]
[Gbm] [E]
[Gb]
[B] [Abm] [Bb]
[Gb] [A]
[Db] [Dbm] [Bb]
Let me try it [B] one more time.
That might be [F] the best it's going to get [Bb] with three fingers.
[A]
[Db] [Dbm]
[Gb] [B] [Abm] [Bb]
[Gbm]
[Db]
[B] [N] That wasn't too bad.
It was pretty close.
I mean the notes were accurate but playing it slow doesn't really sound right.
[Gm] I'll try it with four fingers for you four finger [Gb] players.
I don't think there's too many out there.
And [Ab] alrighty, so here we go.
[Bb]
Let's do it slow.
[Db]
[Gb] [B] [Gb]
[B] [Abm]
[Gbm]
[Db]
[Gb] That's basically it.
That's the intro to Jack and Jill.
So that should do it.
I think the solo, I'm going off the top of my head so please don't take this as the way
it's supposed to be.
[Bb] So
[E] [Db]
[Abm]
[Bb] [Abm]
[Bb] [Ab]
[Eb]
[Bb] [Ebm] [Ab]
[Bb] [A] [E] Something like that.
Okay?
So that's pretty much how the solo starts off.
I'm sure the ending wasn't [F] exactly right.
But the main riff, the first riff is
[Bb]
[Em] [B] [Gbm] [Gb]
[B] [Ab] [Bb]
[Db] [E] One too many there.
It's only three bends on that last note which is a B flat.
[Bb]
[Gb] And you slide it up to a
[Bbm] Instead we are up.
That hurts like hell.
[Ebm] I'll try to play it slow one more time.
[Ab]
[Bb] [Ab]
[Abm] [Em]
[Gb] [E] [Gb]
[B] [Abm] [Ab]
[Eb] [Db]
[E] [Db]
[Gb] Hope that helps you out guys.
I really do.
I think I'm going to do a little bit of sympathy next.
Alrighty, so stay tuned and I really do hope that helped.
Take care
