Hello, my [N] name is Damian from DamianBocci.com and welcome to today's Rockabilly Guitar Lesson.
Today we're going to be looking at Buddy Holly once again and I'm going to show you today
a solo that's loosely based around the song Rock Around With Ollie V.
This is going to
be fun.
Let's do it.
Let's get into it.
Let's go. _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [Em] _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [A] _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [C] _ _ _ [D] _ _ _ [D#] _
_ _ [A] _ _ _ _ [E] _ _
_ [A] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [C] _ _
_ [A] _ _ _ [D#] _ _ _ [F#m] _
_ _ [E] _ _ [A] _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [N] _ _ _ _
Alright now to play this lick we start on our B and E string and we're going to be on
our B string on the 10th fret and the _ E string we're going to be on the 9th [A] fret.
So 10th
fret on the B string _ and 9th fret on the E string and we just strum like this. _ _
_ [Am] _ And we
slide up on the B string on the 13th fret _ _ _ and the 12th fret on the E string.
So basically
we're just keeping the same position we're just [A] sliding up.
_ _ [Am] _
_ _ _ [G#] Just like that.
So 13th fret
on the B string _ and 12th fret on [C] the E string.
_ _ Now [A] I've seen people they like to kind of
_ _ _ [Am] _ _ [A] _
_ bend up a little bit.
On this guitar I just don't.
I just kind of keep it the same. _ _
[C] _ _ _ Maybe
I'll give it a little bit of a push.
_ [A] But it's up to you.
You feel it how you want to do
it.
So anyway.
_ _ _ [C] _
_ _ And then the next part is we're just putting our finger on the 3rd fret [D] on
the B string and the 5th fret on the E string.
So it's. _ _
[D#] _ _ And what we're doing there is we're
putting our finger on the 4th fret on the B string.
_ Keeping our finger on the 5th fret
still on the E string.
_ Just [D] like that.
_ _ _ [D#] _ _ _ [N] _
So now just a quick review.
[G#] It's just.
_ _ [C] _
_ _ [D] _ _ _ [D#] _ _ _
[A] _ _ Now we
go right into an 8 chord.
_ _ _ _ And what I like to do there _ [F#m] _ is [A] put my _ pinky on the 7th fret
on the B string. _
_ [F#m] _ [A] Just like that.
_ [F#m] _
And then we'll go into an E7 [E] chord. _
_ _ _ _ _ And I'll just strum
it like that.
_ _ _ Now let me go over the notation of this chord. _ _
On the A string you're going
to play the 7th fret. _
On the D string you're going to play the [G#] 6th fret. _
_ _ [D] On the G string
you're going to play the 7th fret.
_ And on the B string [E] you're going to play the 5th
fret. _ _ _ _
_ And it's played just like that. _
See my [F#] fingering on [E] there.
_ And I'll just strum
it like this. _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [A] _ _ _ _ _ [E] _ _
_ _ [A] _ _ _ _ _ _
Just like that.
_ _ [F#m] _ [E] _
_ _ _ [A] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [E] Now what I'll do there is when I go back from the E7.
_ _ Now
when I come back from the E7 _ I'll _ _ _
_ [A] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
just play the A like that. _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ Now what you can also do
when you come out of it.
_ _ [Am] _ _ _
[Dm] _ _ _ [A] You can do it a lot easier like this.
_ [E] _ _ _ _ [A] _ _ _
_ _ Now I [G#] wouldn't think that
was cheating necessarily.
It's a lot easier to do and if I saw somebody doing it live
I wouldn't think anything less of them. _
Because we all know the [A] gist of what's happening there.
It's not really a big deal.
_ And that's just strumming _ _ _ [F#m] that A chord with _ putting your finger
on the 7th there.
_ [A] _ _ [D#] _
_ _ And that's just strumming putting your finger, _ pinky on the 7th fret
on the B string. _ _
And [E] the E7.
_ _ [A] _ _
_ _ _ _ Just like that. _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [E] _ _ _ _ [A] _ _ _
_ _ _ [N] And just experiment with that. _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ And now the next part.
Here's the middle part.
_ [A] _
_ _ _ [C#m] _ _ [D] _ _ _
_ [D#m] _ _ _ [A] _ _ [F#m] _ [E] _
_ _ [A] _ _ _ _ _
Alright now to play this part on the E string
we're going to be on the 5th fret.
_ [C#] On the A string we're going to be on the 4th fret.
[A] So it's _ _ [C#m] _ _
slide up [G#] to the 9th fret on [C#] the E string [A#] and the 7th [C#m] fret on the A string.
_ _ _ [A] So
that's. _ _ _
[C#m] _ _ _ [D] And the next part is this.
_ _ [D#m] _ _ _ _ [D] And what we're doing there is playing on the 5th fret
on the A string. _
4th fret on the [C#] D string.
_ _ _ _ [D#m] _
_ And we're going to slide up _ [D] on the 5th fret
to the [Cm] 6th fret there on the A [D] string.
And we're going to [C] keep our finger [D] still on the
4th fret on the D string.
_ _ _ [B] _ _ _
[A] And then back to the A.
_ _ [E] _
E7.
_ [A] _ _ _ _ _ _
[G#] Alright.
_ _ [N] Now at the end of this video I have an acoustic guitar background rhythm track on here that
you can play the solo that I taught you today over that.
That accompanies that.
So have
fun with that and I hope that helps.
_ And talk to you guys soon.
_ _ _ [Am] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [C#] _ _ _ _ _ _ [A] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[D] _ _ _ [B] _ _ _ _ [A] _
_ _ [E] _ _ _ _ [A] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [F#m] _ _ _ _ [A] _ _
_ _ _ [F#m] _ _ _ _ [A] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ [E] _
_ [A] _ _ _ _ _ [E] _ _
_ _ [A] _ _ _ _ _ [F#m] _
