_ _ _ _ Hello there the rocky road to Dublin
_ _ Now this is a slip jig
_ _ Which is basically a tune in
9-8 timing so you kind of got
_ three sets of three quavers
So it goes one two three one two three one two three
And then you get move on to the next bar.
It goes one two three one two three one two three
That's basically it _ _
[N] The rhythm is a bit different from a regular jig _
_ So what I'm going to do first in this quick tutorial is I'm going to play the tune at more or less a regular speed
And then I'm going to kind of slide right down and we'll just have a look at how we actually tackle it
So first this is what the tune sounds like at regular speed
_ _ _ [B] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [G] _ _
[D] _ _ _ [B] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[F#m] _ _ _ _ _ [B] _ _ _
_ [F#m] _ _ _ _ _ _ [B] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ [Em] _
_ _ [B] _ _ [A] _ _ _ _
_ _ [N] So it nips along a fair old paste isn't it
So if you're trying to learn this tune that it really is a bit too quick to try and pick it up
_ _ So what I need to do now is play the thing really slowly Luke as slow as I possibly can
So that's what I'll do now and I'll hopefully figure out the notation for you as well
So you can watch that on the screen at the same time.
So here we go
_ [F#] _ three four _
_ _ _ [Bm] _ _ _ _ [A] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[Bm] _ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _ _
[B] _ _ _ _ [G] _ _ _ _
_ _ [C] _ _ [D] _ _ _ _
[Bm] _ _ _ [A] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _ _
[Bm] _ _ _ [Am] _ _ [G] _ _ _
_ _ [E] _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _ [B] _
_ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [G] _ _ _ _
[B] _ _ _ _ _ _ [F#] _ _
[D] _ _ _ _ [B] _ _ _ _
[C] _ _ [F#] _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [G] _ _ _ _ [D] _ _
[F] _ _ _ [Bm] _ _ [A] _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _
[Bm] _ _ [F#] _ _ [G] _ _ _ _
[A] _ _ _ [D] _ _ _ [Bm] _ _
[A] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ Okay
That's super [G] slow speed _ so hopefully that will kind of give you some idea of the bowing that I'm
using on this tune _
_ _ _ _ It's just a question of feeling the rhythm
Da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da _ _
You've just got to practice that really [F#] to get that in in your mind and your bowing
_ To sort of kind of put across that rhythm
_ Let's just take it up a tad now in terms of speed not too quick.
So let me see
Da da da da da da so I'll just [B] go a touch faster.
So three _ four _ _ _
[A] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ [F#] _
_ [F#m] _ _ _ _ _ [G] _ _
[A] _ _ _ [D] _ _ [G] _ _ [A] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[F#m] _ _ _ [G] _ _ _ _ [A] _
_ [E] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[F#m] _ _ _ [D] _ _ [F#] _ _ _
_ _ [G] _ _ _ _ [A] _ _
[F#m] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [F#] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [G] _ _ [B] _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[D] _ _ _ [Bm] _ _ _ _ [G] _
_ _ _ _ [B] _ _ _ _
[A] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [G#] _ _ Okay, so I think hopefully that should give you an idea [Em] of feel for the [N] rhythm behind
This tune and the bowing that you need to kind of apply to get that rhythm for this particular tune
_ correct in a way _
if you get a chance to hear anybody sing this tune you'll immediately pick up on
the way that the tune is structured and the way it sort of drives itself through
it I was trying to put that across there with my with my bowing _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
don't worry too much if you find this really difficult because it
takes a while to get a handle on slipjigs they're not the easiest of
tunes to to kind of get right _ _ and so that that's that's that's not a problem
if [G] it takes you a fair bit of time _ _ the best thing is to listen to to someone
like Dave Swarbrick playing these tunes and you'll get a good idea how how they
should sound _ but there you are that's that's the that's the slip jig
_ Rocky Road to Dublin [B] what a great tune it is _ thanks for watching and I'll see
you again soon bye bye _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
