You finally [G] find me.
You came with the B-Wire, did you?
So we had a name, but we didn't have a record deal.
So we went over to audition for this agent in Hollywood named Benny [N] Shapiro.
And Benny was a real big guy.
He had all these big parties in the parking lot.
And [E] we played a few [Dm] songs for him in his living room.
We didn't know it, [N] but he had a 14-year-old daughter upstairs.
And she [E] came running down the stairs all excited.
She said, Daddy, [A#] Daddy, who's that?
She thought the Beatles was [N] in her house.
Well, the next day, Miles Davis came over to see Benny because it was his agent.
And Benny's telling Miles, you know, a funny thing happened.
These kids came over to our audition last night.
My daughter flipped out.
She thought they were great.
Miles said, well, keep that away.
No one needs anything.
[C] So I picked up the phone and called Columbia Records.
And he said, you know that [Gm] rock band you've [B] been looking for?
I think I got a job.
And they signed us on his recommendation.
[N]
The rock band [B] Columbia Records was kind of a middle-of-the-road [F#m] label.
They [E] were a little [B] bit afraid of rock [C] and roll.
So they gave us [B] a deal for one single, kind of a test of the waters.
[G] So if we could get a hit with that single, then we could go back in the [A] studio and record the rest [G] of the album.
So we needed a really [N] strong song.
And nobody thought any of our songs were that strong.
But Jim Dixon, our manager, had overheard some producers in Hollywood talking about Bob Dylan.
He said, wow, it's a shame Bob's not going to be able to use that song because so many were singing out of tune on it.
[G] It wasn't Bob.
It [N] was one of his friends.
He didn't use the song for six months.
And so we got exclusive use of it before he did.
[A#] So we had a great song.
[C] When we first heard it, [N] they said, this devil comes.
[C#] So we thought, [B] let's sing it.

[N] David Crosby said, I don't like it.
He said that little folkie two, four times is never going to blow on the radio.
[Bm]
Well, he had a point.
The radio wasn't playing a lot of folk [Dm] songs coming in with it.
The [E] Beatles and the Stones.
So I had an idea how to fix that song [N] up for radio.
I've been playing around on my Rickenbacker with little bots.
So
[C#]
[F#] [C#]
[G#]
[D#m] [Fm] [N] what if I put something like that out in front for an intro, and then kick the whole thing up with a Beatle beat?
It might come on our caper radio.

[C#] In the dream you try [F#] to warn me, I'll [G#] come [C#] apart
[F#]
We came [G#] for a trip, [C#] a love you imagined
[F#]
All [C#] my senses are [F#] getting stripped
And [C#] my head and hands and [F#] feet
And [C#] my toes to [F#] the moon's edge
Waiting [C#] for [F#]
my April Eve to be [G#] wandering
I
[F#] need you [G#] now [C#] anywhere I may call [F#] you, sis
I'll [C#] hold you tight, I [F#] won't break
Gas [C#] to dance and [F#] spill my heart away
I must go [G#]
on through [A#] [G#] it
[F#] May [G#] yesterday [C#] be better than [F#] Sunday
