[C] Hey guys, today I said I'm going to take a look [N] at Wave Myself Goodbye by Rory Guthart
from his first solo album, it's called Tidal Whirl.
Nice little acoustic blues track and he is, as far as I can hear, starting off with a
kind of similar to Bankers Blues, that intro, if you've seen the lesson on [F#] that or heard the song.
But it's in the key [A] of A, [N] so first of all I'm going to do some hybrid picking.
[A] So I've got the A string going with these bends, [C#] and it's like a double stop [N] bend, so
12th fret on the high E, 13th fret on the B string, so I use my first and second fingers
for that, and then I'm talking with those two fingers for [Am] those strings, and pick for
the A string.
[A] [Am]
[E] And then an [A] open E, and a trill on the D string, [B]
[E]
[C] and then to a D7, [D] [Bm]
[C] I'm kind of using a [D] hybrid
picking again for this, so pick on the D, [G#] and then [E] the fingers on the [D] B and E strings,
[N] and then I'm doing a hammer-on on the [Bm] B string to the first fret from the open E, [D]
[Bm] [D]
and then
picking [G#] the E string.
[D] [Bm]
[Bm]
[D] [A] And then to an A7, same kind of idea with the picking fingers,
[G] and then a [E] hammer-on
and pull-off on the B string and the second fret.
[A] [G] And then hit the open [A] G.
[G] [A]
[A] [D]
To a D major, [Dm]
[D] [Dm] [D] and then you're making it a D minor [B] basically, so it's like that trick
you can do with the four chords, you know, [F#] starting off on the major and then [D] making it minor.
[Dm] [A]
[D] [Dm]
[A] A7, [Bm] that's the turnaround, so it's [D] kind of a variation on the blues turnaround basically.
[A]
[D] [A]
And the verses are D [D] major,
[A]
[Em] and [C] it's kind of hard to hear [G#] on the record exactly what
he's doing, and there [F] is a video of him playing it live in Paris as well, and the footage
is kind of hard to make out what he's doing [G] with his hands exactly as well, and it's kind
[G#] of a shot that's not close on the neck as well, so.
You have to really use your ears, but [D]
if you listen closely I think it's D for the verse,
you're going to the suspended second, so that's open E,
[A]
[A] [D] and you can do some hammer [G#]-ons and
pull-offs like we did before for the [A] intro.
[D] [A]
[D]
[A]
So I'm going to either an A7 or just a normal A major, [E] and then we're doing that trill again,
and then
[Fm] the turnaround [A] again.
[D]
[A] [Em] So [N] let's say a typical verse, and [D]
[A] [Em] [D]
[A]
[D] [A]
[E]
[A] [D] [A]
then [N] the bridge, I guess, our solo-y section, is [A] A,
A7 I guess, do the hammer-on and pull [D]-off, to G, to D.
[A] [G]
[D] [Em] [G]
[D] [B]
[G] [D]
[A] To be [C#] honest I'm not, like, I'm
just kind of using my own kind of methods for picking this out with the right hand for [A] this.
I guess you can just strum it, [A]
[D]
or [N] do something with the hyper-picking, kind of like I'm doing
there, [A] [G] [D]
[A] [D]
[A] [G]
[D] [G]
[D]
and then at the [E] end of that, Db, and then you're back [N] into the verse.
So I always really like that song, Wave Yourself Go Wild, I thought it's just a brilliant blues
song, and [F#] the real essence of Rory that we all love.
[Gm] So yeah, hope you enjoyed that one guys, [F#] and I
