[Db] But I had piano lessons from six, so I was always, and music was always there.
Things like The Beatles and The Obvious Ones and Elvis were the only CDs in the house.
So I would put on Elvis, it was like the greatest hits.
I'd put on Elvis when I was like seven and run around pretending to be Elvis,
and in a [E] weird way I kind of still do that.
[A] [B] Yeah, when I heard Queen I started learning Bohemian Rhapsody,
and that made me want to [E] play with other people,
and then there was a guitar lying around and I started learning things on my own I guess.
[C] Yeah, I'd always fiddle around on guitars because I was a big Spanish guitarist in the house,
but Ben had a session job playing drums for someone's record.
Everyone was session players, but they didn't have a bass player,
so he knew I didn't have any work or anything to do,
so he was like, why don't you come and like, blag the bass?
And I was like, really?
And he was like, yeah, be fine.
It was like, it was punk rock, really easy.
So I borrowed a bass off a friend and they sent me the tracks,
and they were very easy, but I was struggling because I'd never really done it.
But I kind of half-blagged the session and no one raised any eyebrows.
So that was probably the first time I played bass.
[Gb] I [Bb]
[Ab]
[Gm] [F] always [Eb] loved playing riffs, so I found it in a really kind of naive way,
I just found it easier because [Ab] I've got really small hands as well,
and I was like, well, there's less room to make mistakes,
and it's bigger and [Bb] dumber, almost.
[G] So I really, yeah, I really enjoyed it from the start,
enjoying it a lot more than guitar.
I was intrigued to learn bass lines all of a sudden,
and was playing along to whatever I could [A] keep up with.
[Em] [D] [Em] [G]
[E] This band is the first band I was in where we kind of stopped taking it seriously.
[Ab] And from the age of, when my first band, we were 13 or something,
up until the band before, I was 19,
every band I'd been in was motivated by making it.
And you'd find yourself sitting down talking more about
how we can get this person to the show, do this,
or how we can get more friends on our fucking MySpace.
And it was like, we were spending so much time doing that
and less actually enjoying what we were doing.
So I think by the time it came around to this,
I still had my job, Ben still had his,
and we were, you know, we recorded between Christmas and New Year
because A, it was cheap, and B, no one had work.
And it was what we did for leisure, really.
