The facts of this tour is that I am [A] singing, uh, [C#] well you'll hear [C] a lot of Kate McGarrigle material.
[F] Um, next, uh, no, next [G#] week, it's in two days actually, we're [B]
premiering a film [A] at Sundance [G#] [A] in London.
They're doing it at the O2 in conjunction [F#] with the Olympics.
Anyways, it's a [D#] film, uh, [D#] it's about my mother, though it's more of a concert film of her material.
It's called Sing Me the Songs that Say [A] I Love You, a concert for [G] Kate McGarrigle.
And, um, [F#] there's [D] incredible artists [G#] in it like, uh, Emmylou [A#] Harris, [E] Nora Jones, Antony, [G#]
um, uh, myself, the family.
[D#] And, um, so it's a beautiful, beautiful film, uh, [G#] very touching, and it's premiering in two days.
And, uh, [D] so in conjunction [B] with that, and also the fact that two of [G] the highlights of the film are, [C]
have graced [A] me with their [D#] presence, uh, [D] in terms of agreeing [A#] to be in my band.
Um, [Am] Teddy Thompson and Crystal Warren are [Fm] now going to come up and [A] sing for you their selections, [G#] uh, from the film.
The [G] first song is called the Saratoga Song, and the next one is [N] called I Don't Know.
So, enjoy.
[G#]
[B] [E]
[E]
[B]
We [E] were nice young adults, we proved ourselves, we [B] showed [E] results, like cats and dogs who'd undergone a fix.
[B]
[E] Fashionably [B] cynical, [E] and love to us was clinical.
Long ago, we [F#m] gave up getting [E] our kicks.
[B] [E] But the summer sun [B] came down [E] on all of us.
Fun to [B] feel, fun to [E] fall [B] into a sloppy [E] teenage scene.
[B]
[E] Gossiping [B] and having crushes, [E] turning lights to hide our blushes.
My God, [B] I thought I was [E] sixty,
[C#]
almost happy.
[C#] Turn the green buds into [F#]
flowers.
[B] This crazy summer is [Em] over.
[B] No more bees, [C#] no more [G]
clover.
[B] Oh, [F#] at the swimming hole, [B] swings by [F#] the weight of [B] the wind.
Skidmore girls come back to [Em] town.
[B]
All the freaks head [C#]
underground.
[G] [B] And we, who are [F#] free,
[B] swing like [F#] the rope on [B] that tree.
We danced and played some tennis, made love with Fred or Dennis.
[E] We drank lots of beer and ate a whole lot of food.
[B] [E] We put our bodies [B] to the sun, [E] forgot to [F#] see in everyone.
[E] We swam, [B] just three [E] swans.
[B]
And [E] the New York [B] City ballet dancers [E] danced for all [B] the neighborhood cancers [E] who were celebrating [B] their birthdays [E] in the sun.
[B]
[E] And all that sun [B]
brought dope and lust.
[E] We weren't too smart and we had a bust.
But nobody slept [E] alone.
[B] [C] [C#]
Night turned to day.
Summer [D#] went [F] [F#] away.
[B]
This crazy summer is [D#] [Em] past now.
[B] Sunrise to sunset [Em] is fading [G] fast now.
[B] And all [F#] I want [B] is to see [F#] the rope on [B] that tree.
So bring back the bagels, bring back [Em] the locks.
[B]
Let's have another, [C#]
[Em] another [G] night.
Bring back the [B]
laughs, bring back [F#] the tears.
Bring back the [B] days, bring back the [F#] dope.
Burn the [B] night.
[F#] [N]
