[D] I Will Fail You is kind of like, it's kind of what it says [B] on the tin.
It's [F#m] about being realistic about the expectations that people put [D] on each other.
And it's about being realistic that everyone in your life, [F#] if you have a [F#m] relationship with
someone, it doesn't really matter [D] how tight or what [A] that bond looks like, there will [F#] be
times when those people will fail you.
And living [D] your life as if those things aren't going [F#] to happen, or living it maybe [E] overly
[D] optimistic about [E] [F#m] your relationship with people is pretty dangerous [A] territory, especially
if you get really bent out [E] of shape when people do fail.
[F#] But it's [A#m] essentially just about [F#m] being realistic about the human condition.
Everyone's going to fail each [C#] other, everyone's going to [D] bum each other out, we're going to
fail our spouses, we're going to fail our children, we're going to [F#] fail our siblings,
our [F#m] parents, our friends.
So [D] it's just about understanding that and
[F#m] hoping for a more realistic viewpoint from
other people on that.
[C#] [D] And like I said, [F#] there's [E] a scrutiny that I think a lot [F#] of people don't understand or
[D] don't deal with outside of the Christian metal [F#m] world.
Metal bands [F#] outside of the Christian world don't fully [E] understand about that.
[F#]
Or just bands in general.
[E] Bands [A] that are not in the [E] Christian scene or market or whatever you want [G#m] to call it
[D] don't fully understand how crazy that line [E] that you sometimes [C#] feel like you have to walk is.
[F#] [F#m] On one side there's the people who you're never going to be Christian enough for [D] and
you're never going to be blatant and obvious enough about it for them to feel comfortable
[F#m] enough to support you.
And on the other side [Bm] there's [F#m] the people [D] who obviously you're way too Christian for.
All you have to do is say thanks to Jesus Christ in [F#m] your liner notes and the record
review will be just about your religion or whatever.
So there's this [D] line that you have to walk if you feel like playing the game, which grows
very [F#m] tiresome, that is [F#] kind of like it's not a, [D] you can't win.
It's a line that doesn't allow you to win on either side.
So [F#] that's essentially what [E] that song is about.
It's about just [D] letting people know that [F#] if I don't feel like walking that line [F#m] then
[B] you
need to understand that I'm just a human [F#] and you don't need to put me on some [A] pedestal
of some guy [E] that's [G#m] holier than thou or whatever.
