[G] [D] [G] [Bm] Okay, hi everybody, welcome to Harmonica Lick of the Week with me, Sandy Tall.
So this week I'm going to teach you basically the 12 bar blues.
[Abm]
We all know the 12 bar [Ab] blues, I [B] would imagine.
There's three very simple riffs on the harmonica.
Right now I'm playing on a G and I'm playing a Daniker Centurion.
Ooh, lovely.
Yes, it's very meaty and weighty.
Lovely.
So basically there's three main components to a 12 bar blues on a harmonica.
And they are all centred around the third, fourth and fifth holes.
So you'd go around the third and the fourth holes.
The fifth hole occasionally comes in at the end as it's a little bit of a spice.
The first lick that we're going to learn, it's all about, there's two phrases we need to know here.
Blow and draw.
Yes, I know it sounds like we're smoking a hash pipe.
But no, we're playing the harmonica.
So blow, obviously.
Draw.
Blow out, draw in.
The first we are going to do is 3-4-3-3.
Which goes blow, blow, draw, blow.
So 3-4-3-3, blow, blow, draw, blow.
[G] Sounds like this.
[D]
[G] [D] [G] [D]
[Abm] [A] [D] So that one again.
3-3-4-3, write this down.
Blow, blow, draw, blow.
[G] [Bm] [G]
[D] [G] [D]
[G] Second one we're going to do, which is when you change.
We're going to do 4-4-3-4.
Blow, blow, draw, blow.
[B] So with the first and the second put together, it makes sense.
First, 3-4-3-3.
Blow, blow, draw, blow.
[G] [D]
[G] [D] [G] [D]
[G] [D] [G]
[Bm]
[A] [C] Now we get to the next part.
When we get to the third phrase, which is going to be 3-3-4-4.
We're going to go blow, draw, blow, draw.
3-3-4-4.
Sounds like [Bm] this.
You [Ab] [A]
[B] can incorporate the fifth hole into this to give it a little bit of an edge at the end.
So you're going to go.
[D] [G]
[Abm] [Am] [G]
[D] [B] So there's three phrases.
And you can pretty much, you know.
You can do it however you like.
You can just sit there with a mic and a harmonica.
You can just bust a groove.
So let's have a little.
[G] My mama let me.
[Bm] Identify [G] day.
[Bm] [Db] And then something.
And we're on YouTube.
And I'm learning how to play the harmonica.
Oh yes.
I ain't got no [G] shoes on.
But I got my boots on.
Okay.
So anyway.
Put those three phrases together.
[D] And [G] [Bm] [G]
[D] [G] [D] [G]
then
[D] [G] [Bm]
[E] [Am] [B]
[D] [G] [Abm] [D]
[G] [B] we can get the part started.
So those are the three basic licks that you need to learn to learn any blues harmonica.
Any 12 bar blues.
You can play in any key.
The third and the fourth holes are consistent.
It doesn't matter what key you're playing in.
I just happen to be playing the key of G.
Once you get that down.
Then you're ready to rock.
Then we can get going with some really funky stuff.
Okay.
Thank you very much people.
And I'll see you next week.
[N]
