G'day, Nigel from McGill Music here.
Careless [Eb] Whisper.
Ah, what a classic saxophone solo.
And if you've seen the Sexy Sax Man on YouTube, then you'll know all about this solo.
And I want to show [Bb] you quickly how to play it today.
It's a brilliant one to learn.
Because it's actually very repetitive, it's quite easy to learn actually.
Tell you what, I'll play you the whole thing, and then we'll break it down the section.
[Db] Here we go.
[Dm] [E] [F]
[Bb]
[A] [C] [E] [Fm] [A]
[Dm] [Gm] [F] [Bb] [Cm]
[Bb]
[A] [Bb] [E] [Fm] [Am] [Bb]
[Db] So, [A] first of all, pop along to the link down below to mcgillmusic.com
And grab the PDF lesson for this [Abm] video.
So you've got the music, you can work on at home.
[Bb] Okay, so, [Ab] it's kind of repetitive, [C] [B] so [Eb]
we only really need to learn a couple of sections.
Let's [Db] start with the very, very first section.
[Ab] It's in the key of B minor, so we've [Bb] got F sharps and C sharps all the way through.
And the first thing is that great big run that goes all the way up to a high C sharp.
And all that run is, is kind of like a [A] D minor [Bb] scale.
But we go D, E, F sharp, G, A, A sharp, B, [Db] C, C sharp.
It's kind of like a scale that we look [Abm] from anything at the end.
So again, D, E, F, [Db] G, A, A sharp [Abm] or B flat, B, C natural.
[N]
[E] You'll [F] [E] [Ab]
[Dm] [E] [Dm] [Db]
[N]
be able to get it nice and [Abm] smooth all the way up to the C.
Okay, then when the [Bb] melody starts, C sharp, B, F sharp, D.
C sharp, B, F sharp, D.
C [D] sharp, [A] B, F sharp, D.
C sharp, [Ab] B, F [Db] sharp, D.
Okay, [N] so let's try it with the run up.
Here we go.
All day long.
[Dm]
[Bb]
It's the same kind of thing, but it starts on A.
A, G, D, B, A, G, D.
Let's try it again.
A, G, [Ab] D, A, G.
[Bb] [Fm] The [Db]
next [Bb] one starts with a G.
G, F sharp, [Gb] [Ab]
[Bb] [Db] [Abm] [Db]
F sharp.
[Gb]
[F] [Bb] The
[Db] last phrase in this first half.
[A] [Bbm] [B] [Db]
[G] [A] [Bb]
[Abm] F sharp, [Db]
[G] [Db] [Ab]
[Db] G.
[A] [Bb] [C] [E]
[G] [A] [Db] [Abm] Right, so now we're halfway through the whole solo.
Let's do that whole first [Db] half.
Here we go.
With the gliss.
See if you can play along with me.
Here we go.
[A]
[Fm] [Bb]
[A] [Bb] [E] [G] [A]
[Db] So, the second half is almost identical to that first half.
Again, [Eb] we've got just a short run because we're going from the F sharp this time [Db] up to that C sharp.
So quick, wah.
I just think you'd probably go B, F, C natural, C sharp.
Ah, no.
[A] And then we're to the C sharp, [Ab] B, F [E] sharp, D.
C sharp, [F] B, F [Bb] sharp, D.
[Gbm] A, G, D, [A] B.
A, G, D, C [Bbm] sharp, D, C.
[G] [Bbm] We've got a big long scale again.
F sharp.
[Ab] [D] [E] [G]
[A] The difference [Eb] is, the last note, we finish on B.
So we'll do a little run up to that B.
And I think we'll see how good we get.
A, A sharp, or B flat, [Db] then B.
[Abm] So the last little bit, then you've got your run.
[Bb] F sharp, [C] G, [E] A, B, C sharp, D, [A] F sharp.
[Ab] La la.
[Db]
Got it?
Right, so let's try doing the whole thing.
Top to bottom.
Here we go.
Ah, ah, ah.
[E] [F] [E] [F]
[Bb]
[A] [Bb] [C] [E] [G]
[Am] [Dm] [E] [Dm] [Fm]
[Bb] [C] [Bb]
[A] [C] [G]
[Am] [Ab] [Eb]
Alright, [Abm] so that's Careless Whisper.
A great solo.
Have a lot of fun with that.

G, F sharp, [Gb] [Ab]
[Bb] [Db] [Abm] [Db]
F sharp.
[Gb]
[F] [Bb] The
[Db] last phrase in this first half.
[A] [Bbm] [B] [Db]
[G] [A] [Bb]
[Abm] F sharp, [Db]
[G] [Db] [Ab]
[Db] G.
[A] [Bb] [C] [E]
[G] [A] [Db] [Abm] Right, so now we're halfway through the whole solo.

[G] [Bbm] We've got a big long scale again.
