Start Jamming...
[D] Scientist is very good at what he does.
He's very good working with him because he knows what he's doing
and he brings a special flavour to the music.

[Bm] [Gm] [Em]
[D] My name is Hopetown Brown, professionally known [G] as a scientist.
We are in the Red Bull studio here today recording the Upset Up band
and [Em] giving a demonstrational [Eb] dub event.
[N]
We're here at the Red Bull Music Studios, part of the Scientist tour.
We'll be at Fabric tonight and Scientist is playing with the Upsetters.
So Scientist got down here first.
We tuned up the drum kit.
We're rather sick.
[Fm] [B] And he's tuning the ring.
[F]
The drum's not right.
The whole recording sounds like demo.
This is the hardest instrument to record.
Get the drums properly mic'd and then we do the recording.
[Gm] [F]
[Gm] [F]
[Gm] [F]
[C] In the studio now we are jamming.
[F] When I say jamming, [Gm] [F] it's jam but a serious jam [Gm] in the sense that
everything is [Cm] spontaneous and the idea is [Eb] to get live vibes on the track.
It's the first time in the Red Bull studio so I really do [F] enjoy this session today.
The unique thing about [Cm] reggae is especially when you're working with musicians like the Upsetter.
They made [F] up these rhythms right on the [Gm] spot.
The guitar player is a feel.
[F]
That's [Gm] one of the beauts with reggae.
[Dm]
[F]
[Eb] [Gm] [F]
[Gm] [F] After we do the [Gm] recording, then [F] we would do the [Cm] vocal.
[F] And
[Gm] [F] [Gm]
[F] [Bb]
[Eb] [Gm]
[F] [Gm]
after the vocals, then we do a dub mix.
[F]
[Gm] [F] [Gm]
[F] [Gm]
All the consoles, they all use the same [Cm] generic setup.
I'm [G] just able to manipulate this board into that situation.
If it had a better [Gm] physical layout, [F] I could do way [Eb] more things with [Cm] it.
Ok, so ready Scotty.
Let's try the next one.
[Abm] The scientist has been in the main studio mixing our [Fm] remixes.
It's quite amazing actually to watch him [Dm] because not many people use a mixing desk
[Abm] as engineers like him do nowadays.
Because they really do [Em] use that mixer as an instrument.
I think electronic music in general [Dbm]
pays [A] [N] massive respect to the likes of
scientists, King Tubby, Lee Perry.
The whole point about it is scientists is a dub chemist, a dub mixer.
So what we want to do is just give him a foundation so he can dub.
The first rhythm we're going to play out tonight.
Live and direct, in fabric, Red Bull session.
Berjan.
After today's session, we're now at Fabric to continue the second part of the [C] journey.
I'm going to make it [Db] my utmost best to make sure [Am] that you are delighted at the end.
You have [E] some lights?
In [Eb] the booth [F] is a legend, yeah?
And his man called [Cm] Scientist.
Say Scientist!
[F] I'm
[Gm] [F]
[Gm] [Am] preaching [Gm] and I dance.
[F] She had her iron [Gm] in her head again.
[F] She would come to see [Gm] her family.
[Am] She made a mistake and [Gm] went to a funeral.
[F] But when she heard all [Gm] the drummers play.
[F] And when she heard all [Gm] the guitars play.
[F] And when she heard all [Bb] the guitars go wrong.
[F] And when she heard all the [D] artists.
[Am] [Bb]
[Am] [Bb]
[Abm] The [Am] purpose of today was [C] to document what [Am] takes place inside [D] the studio.
[G] When [F] you're going to [C] do like Eric Morley.
[Gm] [F]
