Well, this next [A] song I wrote with Tom, we've written a ton of [F] songs together.

And [Db] a year later we [B] decided to go out on [F] the road, and I [A] lived in Washington, D [Ab].C. at the time.
decided, let's book a tour [Ab] in Texas.
we did, you know, booked [A] maybe four or five gigs,
was at this club in Houston called Anderson [F] Fair.
cool club if you've ever been [F] there.

[N] Anybody here [C] familiar with a singer-songwriter [G] named Tom Kimmel?
_ [F] _ _ [E] _ _ _
Well, this next [A] song I wrote with Tom, we've written a ton of [F] songs together. _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ I met Tom at Kerrville in [Bb] 93 and we were both, _ _ we were two of [B] the six winners together,
and that's when I [F] first met him.
And _ [Db] a year later we [B] decided to go out on [F] the road, and I [A] lived in Washington, D [Ab].C. at the time.
[F] _ So we decided, let's book a tour [Ab] in Texas.
So _ we did, you know, booked [A] maybe four or five gigs,
and our first gig was at this club _ in Houston called Anderson [F] Fair.
_ _ _ _ _ [Ab] Really cool club if you've ever been [F] there. _ _ _ _
[G] Brick everywhere and it's just really nice and cozy.
[F] _
We got there early and we did a sound check and then the guy _ said,
well, your gig's not until nine [G] o'clock.
So we decided [Ab] we'd go out and grab a bite to eat. _
_ [C] As we were walking down the sidewalk, this guy came [Gb] up to us and said,
_ [Ab] hey, I'm the can man.
I'm the can [G] man.
I need to talk to [Ab] you guys for a second.
_ _ [C] So me and Tom looked at each other like, yeah, we'll give [Ab] him a minute [A] or two.
[F] And _ the can man [A] started talking and from the first word it was [Ab] apparent that he was not [Gb] the guy that we expected him to [F] be.
_ He was just so full of life and [A] light,
and [G] it's almost [Db] like it spilled out of his [Am] mouth every time he opened it to talk.
[F] _ _ So me and Tom Kimmel _ stood there in the street corner 15, 20 minutes,
just _ _ _ [G] talking with the can man, telling jokes, little [A] bits and pieces of our lives.
Finally, can man [G] looked down at his watch and [F] said, man, I gotta [Ab] go.
I gotta go.
You guys kept me [Abm] here way too [F] long. _ _ _ _
Then he said he left his [Db] Cadillac running on [C] the other side of the [Gm] street.
_ _ [G] Now we [Cm] were really confused, you know, because he looked like [Ab] a street guy, not a Cadillac [F] guy.
So _ _ Tom and I stayed put, can man [Abm] crossed the road and [Ab] started pushing this shopping cart full of aluminum cans.
[F] _ And he saw us looking at him.
So he _ [Gb] waved over to us and said, [Abm] hey, hey, see my [Gbm] Cadillac, my Cadillac.
Like he was really proud of it, [F] you know.
But he was smiling as [Db] he was [F] walking away.
_ _ We were just so taken with this guy that [Bb] _ _ we kept talking about him for [Eb] days.
And we ended up here [F] in Austin _ a couple of days later.
And [B] our friend's kitchen table about [Bb] midnight, we were still [A] talking about the can man.
So we stayed up, wrote this song.
About 2.30 in the [Ab] morning, we were _ done.
[F] _ _ We didn't think anything was going to come of it.
But _ _ [Bb] _ _
a _ couple of years later, a country [A] star named Randy Travis covered this song.
[Dm] _
And I'm really grateful for it because believe it or not, I still get checks in [F] the mail.
So _ [Bb] it's nice.
_ _ [F] _ _ _ _ _ _
[Ab] So here goes.
This [A] is called See [Ab] Myself in You.
[F] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [Bb] _ _ [C] _ _ _
_ [F] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ If I met you _ on _ the [Dm] corner, _ _ _ _ [Bb] would I know you _ _ _ _ [C] as you are?
_ _ _ Would [F] I take you _ _ for a [Dm]
stranger _ _ and [Bb] brush past you _ in _ [C] the door?
And _ if you [Dm] called me, _ _ [Am] would I hear you?
_ _ _ [F] _ _ Would I walk away too soon? _ _
_ _ _ If I linger _ _ _ for _ [Dm] a moment, _ _ would [Bb] I see _ _ [F] myself _ in you? _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [C] _ _ _ _ [F] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ And if I fought you _ _ as [Dm] a soldier, _ _ _ _ if [Bb] I had you _ _ _ [C] in my sights,
_ _ [F] would you ask me _ to _ [Dm] _ _ remember [F] _ who _ [Bb] imagined _ I _ _ [Db] was [F] right?
_ [C] And if you _ [Dm] witnessed _ _ [F] my [Am] surrender, _ _ _ _ _ _ _ do I know [G] what I would do?
[C] _ _ _ _ _ If you [F] held me _ like my [Dm] _ brother, _ _ would I [Bb] see _ _ [F] myself in you?
_ _ _ Well, I _ _ dreamed [Bb] _ my _
[C] end was [F] near.
I was _ _ almost [Bb] _ _ gone.
[C] _ _ [F] _ _ _ If [Dm] I _ _ dream [Gm] that _ [C] dream from [F] here, [Am] can I [Bb] still _ [Am] _ come _ [C] _
_ home?
_ And [F] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ [Dm] _

_ _ _ _ if you [Dm] called me, _ _ would I [Am] hear you?
_ _ _ _ Would I walk away [F] too [C] soon? _ _
_ _ [F] _ _ [Gb] If [F] you held me _ like my [Dm]
lover, _ _ _ would I [Bb] see _ _ [F] _ myself in you?
_ _ _ If you held me _ _ like my _
[Dm] _ mother, _ _ [F] would [Bb] I see [C] _ _ myself _ [F] in you? _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[Db] _ _ [A] _ _ [Abm] Thank you. _ _
