[C]
the light and darken everything around me
[F] Call the clouds and listen closely
I'm lost without [C] you
Call your name every day
When I feel so helpless, [F] falling down
But I'll rise above [C] this, rise above this
And hate the mind
Regrets are better left [F] unspoken
For all we know, this void will grow
And [C] everything is in vain
Distressing you, though it leaves me open
[F] Feels so right
But I'll end it all
[C] Before it gets me
Call your name every day
When I feel so helpless, [F] falling down
But I'll rise above this, rise above [C] this
Call your name every day
When I feel so helpless, [F] falling down
But I'll rise above [C] this, down

And who you just heard play
Described Cedar's latest album
As a collection of diary entries
He turned personal tragedy
Into music that connects everyone who struggles
He's become a spokesperson and fundraiser
Bringing suicide awareness and prevention
To a whole new generation
Tonight I join rock fans around the world
Who are inspired by his lyrics
We just had the pleasure of hearing him perform
Now please welcome Sean Morgan back to the stage
To accept the Impact Award for Artistic Expressions
Can you take a picture?
Seven and a half years ago
I lost my brother Eugene to suicide
And the devastation I felt was indescribable
I spent many nights in drug and alcohol induced stupors
Isolating and numbing myself to the pain
All while fighting off my own suicidal thoughts
And after many years
I decided to turn this awful experience
Into something meaningful and perhaps beautiful
To honor his memory
And music has always been my outlet and my expression
So I wrote the song Rise Above This for Eugene
I wanted to help those who suffer silently
Behind closed doors and drawn curtains
And I wanted to raise awareness to their plight
And our Rise Above Fest seemed to be the answer
In the last three years
We have managed to raise more than $100,000
For suicide awareness groups
And I feel that we've started breaking down the wall of secrecy Thank you
And I feel we've started to break down the wall of secrecy
And shame that is built so solidly around people with mental illness
And we have donated over 750 tickets to veterans
And spread our message to millions of people around the world
So thank you for this award
It represents to me the most important achievement of my life to date
I think Robert Browning said it best when he said
He who hears music feels his solitudes peopled at
