Jam Along & Learn...
Hey there everybody
to today's edition of deep cuts.
Songs that I don't play very often in concert
This one's from a record I made called whole new you
It was the follow-up to a few small repairs
make the follow-up and which was a bit of a lengthy period
didn't sell as well
some people say it's their favorite record

_ _ _ Hey there everybody
Welcome to today's edition of deep cuts.
I'm Shawn Colvin _
Songs that I don't play very often in concert _
This one's from a record I made called whole new you _ _
It was the follow-up to a few small repairs
But it took me four years to make the follow-up and which _ was a bit of a lengthy period
You know to follow up a hit record with and it certainly didn't sell as well
And and I've always kind of felt bad about that, but some people say it's their favorite record
It's a strange one for me because I had just had my daughter.
I had her in 1998
That was the same year.
I won the Grammys for a few smaller pairs and
I was pregnant when I won them
So not long after that.
I had Callie in July of
1998 and
It threw me for a loop
having a baby I
Was not prepared
And _ I don't know that enough women talk about this
More now do I think than than before but it's still a little
_ _ I
Don't know really humbling to admit
_ that I just wanted to run away I
Had postpartum depression.
I was 42 years old.
I was not prepared for
The service _ that was going to be required of me and _
_ Callie I'd call it it was hard _
And I felt I I felt this pressure of needing to write this record and I also felt even more pressure
That I needed to write
Sweet lullabies and I couldn't I couldn't I was I was really kind of devastated _ _ _ _
At the same time _ _ _
Rose to the
To the task and I don't even want to call it a task because I was not I love her and loved her
at that time and was there a hundred percent 24-7 and
_ _ Deep inside me knew _
What was going on?
_ _ but nonetheless
_ It was very difficult
_ _ So the the breakthrough moment for me came when I wrote this song which is called a matter of minutes
And I allowed myself to write what I was really feeling
Instead of what I thought I was supposed to be feeling and which is how for me songwriting works
once I sort of get honest and quit trying to be clever or
_ Make sense of something that I can't make sense of
_ You know, then the song comes _ so here it is matter of minutes _ _
