_ [Bb] _ _ _ I've wept for those who [Bbm] suffer long, [Bb] _ _ _ but I'll weep for those who've gone.
[Bb] _ Redemption Day is a song I wrote in 1995.
I had just returned from a USO trip [Eb]
with Hillary Clinton to Bosnia and Tuzla.
I'd never been to a war [Bb]-torn area, never seen anything like it.
And when I came home, I sat down to write a song about breaking up with my boyfriend
_ _ and was really frustrated.
I couldn't finish the song, so I just put it away.
And I started typing the lyrics to the song, and it almost came out just [Eb] like top to bottom.
And it was about, you know, why do we go [Db] into war?
What are the reasons that we go in and set up camp in a [Dbm] place where really, I [Ab] mean, we
have no investment except [Gb] for oil there.
[Db] _ So that was really what inspired the song.
And then Johnny Cash cut it after I did, and now [Eb] we're together on it.
And woman, [Bb] _ [Gb] wait, [Eb] what shall we _ _ _ _ _ for [Bb] Redemption Day?
_ _ _ [Gm] I got up at 3.15 this [G] morning, washed my hair, [F] and we got here, we got [Bb] picked up at 4.15
and started shooting around 7.30.
So it's a full day, [F] and thank goodness it's [Bb] not raining.
[Eb] Gorgeous day, we did a beautiful shoot.
Come leaders, [Bb] come ye [Bbm] men of great, _ [Bb] _ _ let us hear you _ [Bbm] pontificate.
_ _ [Bb] I love working with Sean.
I actually know Sean, [Bbm] and I just love him.
He [Bb] _ feels like [Eb] family, and he's got beautiful taste, and he's so easy [Db] to work with.
I've known Cheryl for a long time, so it's great to be able to work with her [Fm] and be able
to do [Gb] this video with her.
I think it's a [Db] really special project, and I'm just honored to be part of it, actually.
So I'm really honored.
I think it's a [Fm] special one.
[Ebm] Great, cut.
Okay, do you want to do it one more [Eb] time?
Just with one other frame? _ _
For [Bb] Redemption Day. _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ What do you have for [Bbm] us today?
[Bb] This here is Riker.
Riker is the star of the video today, [Bbm] and this scene [Bb] is coming up.
He's going to be standing at the window, and then he's going to put his [Bbm] hand up on the window.
[Bb] He's going to look [Gb] out up on the hillside [Eb] and see Miss Cheryl standing up there.
[Gb] Are you excited?
_ Yeah?
[Eb] _ Let's do this thing. _
[Db] _ [Cm] I mean, I [Bb] think it's time to go do this thing.
[Db] There's just so much going [Ab] on right now, and I feel like the song, the [Ab] meaning behind it
hopefully [Bbm] when people hear it will [Ab] really resonate as something positive.
[Db] I think about my own kids and what they're going to inherit, just the chaos and sort
of the culture [Ab] of hate [Bbm] and [Ab] disregard for each [Eb] other and the planet.
I think, man, they're really going to inherit sort [Bb] of a _ lot to have to conquer.
And so Riker, our little guy in the video, I think he represents all the young kids and
what they're being exposed to [Gb] right now and what [Gm] it's going to mean for them to finally
sort [Gb] of [Db] take over.
Freedom.
_ _ [Eb] _
Freedom.
_ [Gb] Freedom.
_ _ [Gm] Hey, that is an [Db] awesome day right there when you [Fm] get to spend it [Bbm] with Michelle Crow.
[Eb] And with my good buddy, Sean Silva.
And it's not raining.
It's not raining.
And it's Johnny Cash's birthday.
Awesome.
Thank [Gb] you.
Thank you.
