Show of Hands - AIG Interview Part 1 chords
Start Jamming...
[G] All I wanted was a home and a roof over our heads
Somewhere we could call our own, feel safer in our bed
There was a storm of money raining down, it only touched the ground
Where the loan I [C] took out can't repay, the [G] crock of gold you found
[Em] At [C] every trough you [G] stop to see, [Am] with your [C] arrogance, your ignorance [G] and greed
[D]
[G]
[D] [G] [D]
[G]
With your [Bm] arrogance, your [G] ignorance and greed
There's a lot of stuff going on, you know, not just [Em] personal stuff, but also the [G] credit crunch, Afghanistan
There's a lot of bleakness about it, it's very difficult to try and capture the spirit of the times
Unless it somehow connects with something that is personal as [A] well
It's the only retro sounding track on this album, which is the title track
And it does actually sound like a sort of edgy Jackson [Em] Browne track
A lot of [G#] what I do [D] is filtered through listening to David Lindley
Who sadly doesn't play much fiddle anymore, [G] although I believe he has on the last two or three Jackson Browne acoustic tours
But it's [E] just this powerful [G] electric fiddle sound
It was so different to the diddly diddly that I was doing at the time
And I just listened and thought, ah, and then a whole other thing opened up
[A] [G]
The working man stands in line, the market sets his price
No feather bed, no golden egg, no one pays him twice
So where's your breath, and your caution, [C] and your honest [G] sound advice?
[D] You know you doubt yourself, a [C] winning hand, [D]
unloaded every [G] dice
[C] This record, it seemed there was [G] a connection between current affairs and personal affairs
But I didn't know how to turn it into song
And so I sort of suddenly [C#m] found the way
Although we've gigged in about three of the songs, or four of them
[F#] A lot of them were written in a rush [C#m] in early spring 2009
There's something underneath my skin no one can detect
[G#] It's time to [C#] detonate within [C#m] summer
We went away to Germany for a two or three week tour
And [F#] I just suddenly find, having not had a [A] lot of songs in the locker
They all came sort of pouring out with a bit of distance [F#] between [C#m] me and home
Science or nature, scattering [A] spores and seeds
[G#m] I remember being in Germany and we were playing in a venue there
And he [C#] suddenly said, here have [F#] a listen to this
Have [A] you an answer or another [E] IED?
And if I [F#m] disarm you, will you [A] let me be?
I listened to this song and I [B] cried, and I just was pretty [C#m] speechless
A driver in the darkness nods [G#] his head and starts to yawn
[C#m] IED, which is improvised explosive device
Which [D#] unfortunately is becoming more horribly current
[G#m] With every bit of [C#m] news you get from Afghanistan
[D#] And it occurred to me that it's such a [A] strong image
That we're all walking time bombs
We're all [C#m] containing these genetic explosive ingredients
Science or nature, scattering [A] spores and seeds
If for [B] my maker, I'll get [F#] down on my knees
Have you an [A] answer or another [E] IED?
And if I [F#] disarm you, will [A] you let me be?
