[Em]
[E] You know [Bm] I had nothing else to [G] lose.
[B] Music was really the only [Em] thing keeping me going.
[A] [B] Hello, Sierra.
Hi.
I'm [A] Jim.
Hi, Jim.
Nice to meet you.
[G] Nice to meet you.
Welcome to the [B] Opry.
Thank you [Bb] for having [A] me.
I'm doing one of Connie Smith's [B] songs tonight.
There she is.
[A] [G] [A] [E]
I never thought that I would be doing music as a career.
I'm just real happy to be here.
I'm Sierra Farrell and this is my Opry debut.
[Gb] [G] [Bm] Oh nice, the circle.
[G] [D]
Oh wow.
[A] [G]
I love all the church pews.
I've [Em] never been to the Opry ever.
Really?
[G] Yeah, it's my first time ever actually being [D] here.
For me, music has [G] always been a huge escape.
I haven't been very privileged a lot of my life.
Which I'm totally fine with because it's like, you know, it made me who I am today.
I lived in my van.
I lived in a [C] sowboat for a while.
I was [G] busking on the streets all the [C] time.
I enjoyed people [G] not expecting [Am] things from me.
Like [G] when you're street performing, [C] people are walking by you because [A] they're going to a store or something.
And you're [G] just a perk.
There's no expectation and that's kind of what I loved about it.
It's like [Em] nobody's expecting anything from me and I can just do what I want and people can take it or leave it.
The struggle [C] has helped characterize my singing and style.
It's kind of like [G] church for me.
Music has always just been very healing.
And honestly, I probably wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for music.
It's just something that's made me strive to survive and live and just keep going and trying.
[C]
From all the girls [E] you used to harass every day, [C] this one is the best.
[Dm] [D]
[Dm]
[C] I specifically remember sitting down when I was a teenager.
I started playing guitar.
I wasn't the best.
I would just make people cry or weep.
I just remember thinking, this is what I want to do.
I want to help people feel things, feel deep emotions, deep expressions.
Whenever I'm [Dm] playing a show, if I don't get goosebumps from that performance, I [C] feel like I let everyone down.
Because I feel like I can tell whenever I give other people emotional experience.
I can feel that.
If I'm not helping bring [Am] people [B] to that level, then I need to work harder.
I get these messages all the time from people about how I've helped them and saved them.
And that's what keeps [E] me wanting to keep going, is to keep helping people.
Be that light for [Dm] someone.
[C]
She's originally from that wild and wonderful state of West Virginia, but now in Nashvilleia.
She's on Rounder [N] Records and she's making her Opry debut.
Will you welcome Sierra Farrell?
[C]
[E]
Thank you so much.
Well, to be honest, I just ignore the charts and [D] let people come to me [C] every once in a while and give me updates.
[A] [Dm]
At the end of the day, it's really about your team.
[A] [D] I know that [Cm] I'm the face of it, but there's a lot of stuff going on in the background [C] that people tend to forget about.
Tomorrow's never promised, we never know what's going to happen, [Dm] so you just gotta do the best you can.
[C]
Music is always just something that's going to be a part of my life forever, regardless.
Regardless if there's people listening or not, because it's just something that touches me.
[D]
And it's just a perk that people [Dm] like it and they want to hear it, so I'm happy about that.
