One of the most questions that people ask me the most would be, how did you meet your husband Ricky?
had heard about this great hairstylist that was in my hometown in Gainesville, Georgia.
And so I decided one day that I was actually traveling with a Neyland.

_ One of the most questions that people ask me the most would be, how did you meet your husband Ricky?
And I had heard about this great hairstylist that was in my hometown in Gainesville, Georgia.
And so I decided one day that I was actually traveling with a Neyland.
So when I was home one day, I thought, you know what, I'm going to call that guy that
I heard was really good at cutting hair.
But of course I heard he was cute.
But that's really not the original reason that I called him, I promise.
I just needed somebody to do my hair.
But when I called Ricky, he didn't have anything available.
So I said, well hey, if you could just, I'm going to be in town just a couple more days.
If I could just come in, you cut it, and that's all you have to do.
You don't have to fix it.
He said, okay, well I'll work you in.
So I had to get up early the next morning, didn't have hardly any makeup on, had a jogging
suit on, and my hair in a ponytail.
And when I walked in that hair salon and saw Ricky Gooch, I thought, oh my goodness.
I could not believe that that's who they'd been talking about this whole time.
I thought he was so cute.
And so we were sitting there, and I was trying to talk to him.
And he would just answer my questions when I would ask, and that was about it.
So I asked him, I said, well do you like gospel music?
And he says, well I love the primitives.
Well I knew I liked them then, because I loved the primitive quartets.
So I thought there was something special about this one.
So anyway, so he cut my hair and that was it.
So the next day I thought, well I'm going to call him and give him every opportunity
to ask me out, because I will not ask him.
So anyway, so I called him up and I said, hey Ricky, this is Karen.
Just wanted to let you know that you did a great job on my hair.
And I just wanted to thank you for working me in.
And he said, okay, thank you.
And that was it.
So I thought, well the next week I was back in town and my mom and I were near his hair
salon and I said, Mama, I'm going into that shop and I'm going to see that Ricky Gooch
again and I'm going to buy some hairspray and maybe he'll ask me out.
So I walked in and he came from where he was in the back of the store and I bought some
hairspray.
And he said that would be $4.53.
And I went to reach in to give him a $5 bill and then I thought, _ _ because it's got my phone
number on the check.
So I wrote a check for $4.53.
_ And so that night he called me and asked me out and we got married three and a half years
later and I've been married since 1989 and he's still the love of my life. _ _ _ _
