Siouxsie and the Banshees - Dear prudence rew. Marc Almond chords
Start Jamming...
[C] [Bb] Dear Prudence, [Dm] [Ab]
like [C] a red sky
[Bb] In [Dm]
[Ab] [C] [Bb]
the shade, [Am] somewhere you may see
[Ab] A smile of heaven in [C] the air
[Bb] What [F] you left [C] behind
[G] Dear Prudence in Venice for some reason
Annabelle, you've just had a hit with a 60s classic
previously identified very strongly with a well-known male singer
Do you think Suzy's going to do the same thing with this?
Oh, I expect so, yes, very much so.
I mean, I love Suzy
but it's an interesting comparison because I noticed with her
that it's pretty obvious that it's a song that she loves particularly
It must be, because she could have covered just about any Beatles song
and she didn't, she chose that one
and that was the same story with me
and I think that's always a good thing
If you're going to do a cover, do a cover that you particularly love
and not just pick something and just put the hell of it
Isn't it frightening covering something that's been done brilliantly before?
I know, it's so funny, people say to me after I'd done Riders on the Storm
Brave doing a Dawson, it never occurred to me that's the truth
until I'd done it and people started pointing it out to me
This one's a bit gentle for a Benchy, so
Yes, I found it a bit, it's a bit over-psychedelic in places, I feel
I love the B-side, the B-side tattoo is great
I'm much more like Suzie for me than the A-side
Obviously she's done with it what she wanted to do with it
I presume she has some control over how the records sound
So it must be the way she wants it
Which is fine, that's great, as long as it is the way she wants it
and it's not some producer putting his own feelings about it on tape
Julian, did you enjoy the psychedelic video?
I can't get over it, why am I asked to talk about this rubbish, really?
I mean, it's contemptible, it's homosexual rubbish
It looks like trims from just one more Cornetto ad
stuck together with a few old video tricks
What's it all about?
How long can people get away with videos like that then?
Not long, on the basis of that
But there are an awful lot of them about
Too many, yeah, I mean I think in America there are signs that MTV
the audience is beginning to regurgitate the diet of whatever it is
mainly masturbatory guitar heroes over there
But I think they'll do the same here when they get exposed to that kind of stuff all night
But now that every song's got to have a video to go with it
to get itself on television
isn't there going to be a danger that the quality videos could get even worse?
I don't think it definitely will, it is getting worse
The more that are being made, the worse they're getting
Because people don't take the time to actually use [Em] it
in the way that they do when [G] they record a song
I think they give a lot more thought to the way they record a song
than they make a video like that
What about this as a song?
I don't personally see the point of doing a Beatles song
I mean, who remembers the Beatles?
Well, that might be a good reason for doing a Beatles song
But [N] I think the way it's been done
it's got a really beautiful, seductive treatment
and a shimmering whirlpool
And I disagree about the video as well
I think the video's really great
I love it, I think it's really, really great Why?
I just think it's very beautiful and very soft
and very, well, psychedelic, yes
There'll be no doubt, lots of jokes about
Suzie's been [G] taking bad acid, etc, etc
But a big two fingers up for those people
Why did they go to Venice?
Because they were there at the time
Why didn't they make more of Venice?
I think they made quite a lot of Venice
I've never been there
I got a really good feeling about it
Nothing quite has to do with the song, do you think?
Well, I think it reflects the tones and the music
and the sounds
and there's a very shimmering, very romantic sound to it
Mark, you were nodding when I was talking about the B-side
Do you like the B-side too?
Oh, yeah, it's great, yeah
I think the Banshees are one of the only, [N] about the only band
I'll stick my neck out and say that
the only band in this [G] country to have reached their
sixth, seventh album and still be vital, fresh
innovatory and exciting and also very enigmatic
There's no band more enigmatic than the Banshees
and I think the video is great
I think they take such a lot of care about their visuals
in their sleeves and their [N] videos
and the way they put themselves across
They're a very visual band
The more people realise that, the better
and they should be number one Right
So, two fingers up to anyone else who disagrees
Julian, Mark and Annabelle
Thank you very much
