I'm Mike from Heavy TV.
We're at [Gm] Downlow Festival.
I've got [Db] the pleasure this afternoon of [N] talking to Skin.
Guys, thank you so much for talking to me.
You played earlier on on the Dog2 stage.
How did it go?
It went really well, to be honest.
It's my first festival.
It's the first festival ever.
Is it?
It is, to be honest.
Not even in the UK?
Not even in the UK.
So it's like
the first festival.
It was really exciting.
I really enjoyed the show.
People were singing along.
I didn't expect that at all.
It made me a bit emotional, to be honest, [B] but it was awesome.
I [G] can't really find words to describe it.
Did you [Dm] have any [G] preconceptions before you came and did [Eb] they live [N] up to your preconceptions?
It got better.
I think it was better [G] than I expected, to be honest.
Much better.
It's around, well, it's 12 [Fm] months since I last spoke to you [Gbm] at [G] the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards.
What's happened in the last 12 months for Skin?
We released [N] Jim Jones, our first single of Chapter 2.
Chapter 2 will be released in July.
A new single is coming out.
[Bb] Also a song that is just like without a video, just a song.
[G]
And we're [Db] playing more shows.
We played [B] Great Escape.
[Gb]
We were playing [C] a support show yesterday for Rob Zombie, [N] which was amazing.
That was in Glasgow?
That was in Glasgow and it was amazing for me.
I actually haven't met him, so that made me a bit sad, but it was awesome and [F] it was an honor.
I presume [G] he's a hero of yours.
[Bbm] He is.
[G] Definitely.
I mean, come on.
For the guys out there that don't know Skin's music, would you like [F] to just explain [G]
what you're about?
I'm Skin and I write songs [Gb] about true crime.
[Gm] That's what I'm [G] doing.
And for anyone that listens to your songs, like [Db] I have done, and I'm sure [N] millions of people around the world have done,
once you've listened to your songs, you then look online about the guys that you're [C] writing about.
[G] And your lyrics [F] fit in perfectly with the [D] people's stories.
That's [N] research.
That's what I'm doing.
That's what I'm living for.
Research.
I love to research true [C] crime cases.
That's actually my [Eb] hobby.
I made my [N] hobby to actually like a job.
So that's awesome.
Research is the best.
I love it.
[B]
You've probably been asked this many times [Abm] before.
[C] What comes first, the lyrics or the music?
It depends.
It depends.
I [F] mean, [C] sometimes we just like drone in the [Cm] studio and then I come up with like vocal lines
and then I write the lyrics [C] or I write the lyrics first into my lyrics [Db] book and then we come up with [Gb] the music.
So it [Gm] depends.
[G] Yeah.
I've noticed the difference this year at Download.
There are quite a lot of female-fronted bands, more than previous [F] years.
[Eb]
[G] Is it important?
Obviously, it's important to you, but do you think times are now changing where [Cm] female-fronted bands are coming [N] to the fore?
I think so, yeah.
And it's time.
[Eb] It's time that we come forward.
It's really time.
[N] I mean, you know, there are like award shows and then you listen to all the winners that were winning.
And it's only guys.
And I ask myself, why?
I mean, [Gm] I'm a female.
I can do the same shit [N] as them.
So, yeah, it's time.
It's time.
Well, it is.
It's changing.
This year has been a huge change.
It has.
It has been.
There are a lot more female-fronted bands.
I've got [Dm] time for a couple more questions.
[A]
Right.
[G] I've got some random questions [Bb] here.
But before you answer them, [Ab] you've got to roll the dice to see which [N] question you get.
Should I?
Oh, that hasn't happened yet. [D] Double six.
I like [E] it.
So [D] number 12, what is your favourite movie [N] soundtrack?
What is my favourite music soundtrack?
To be honest, it's Vangelis.
I don't know.
You know him?
No. Oh, Vangelis?
Yeah, Vangelis.
Yeah, of course I do.
I like the

Vangelis is a legend.
Yes.
Yeah, absolute legend.
Right, let's do one more question.
OK.
Nine.
What's your earliest musical memory?
Um, well, that goes [Ebm] far back.
I actually, when [Gbm] my grandfather died [N] and I was writing a song about it,
I think that's
I was around like four or something.
And you know, when I started making music, there was my imaginary friend, Skint,
and he showed me like all the bad in the [Eb] world.
And [Db] that's actually something [N] I started with.
The death of my grandfather.
I think that's how it started.
Yeah.
And then it took off.
That's four years old.
That's four.
Wow, that's young.
Yeah.
That's young.
I think we've got time for one more then.
Eight.
Eight.
[A] What were your first impressions [Em] of your bandmates?
[N]
You don't
It isn't just the two of you on stage, is it?
No, we have a drummer as well.
So
But not here, so you can say whatever you like.
To be honest, I didn't like them first, but I liked him.
I liked father.
But we knew [G] we need a drummer, so [N] we got along with him.
No, it's fine.
It's OK.
It's OK now.
You [G] guys met in Sydney, Australia?
Australia, yeah. Yeah?
Yeah.
And what was your first meeting like?
We met at a [N] bush party.
I don't know if you call it that way.
We met at a bush party and he was sitting on a rock, like on [G] a stone rock.
You know how we say that?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And he was rocking [Cm] back and forth, being [G] super weird.
[Eb] And I was sitting next [N] to him and he was like, I know you.
And I was like, I know I know you.
And we had this twin flame connection.
And the next day we went to the studio and we had the same taste in music.
We had the same ideas.
That's how everything started.
The stars aligned on that night then.
Guys, thank you very much for talking to us.
Thank you so much.

And you know, when I started making music, there was my imaginary friend, Skint,
and he showed me like all the bad in the [Eb] world.
And _ _ [Db] that's actually something [N] I started with.
The death of my grandfather.
I think that's how it started.
Yeah.
And then it took off.
That's four years old.
That's four.
Wow, that's young.
Yeah.
That's young.
I think we've got time for one more then. _ _ _ _ _ _
Eight.
Eight.
_ _ _ [A] What were your first impressions [Em] of your bandmates?
_ [N] _
You don't_
It isn't just the two of you on stage, is it?
No, we have a drummer as well. _ _
So_
But not here, so you can say whatever you like.
_ To be honest, _ I didn't like them first, _ but I liked him.
I liked father.
_ But we knew [G] we need a drummer, so _ _ [N] we got along with him.
_ That's how everything started.
The stars aligned on that night then.
_ Guys, thank you very much for talking to us.
Thank you so much.
Absolute pleasure.
Thank you so much.
And best of [E] luck for the coming year.
Thank you. _ _
