[G]
[E]
There we go.
[B] Hey everybody, Jason [Em] Shadrick here, [E] Premier Guitar.
We're at the Summer
NAMM show in Nashville.
I'm at the Godin booth with Doyle Dykes [F] and Mario from [G] Godin.
And
we just heard [F] a little bit [G] on your new signature model guitar.
So Doyle, tell us first a little
about [E] what [D] kind of things you look for in a signature instrument.
[A] Well, the most important thing about this guitar, of course, is it's so different than
any [E] other [B] acoustic guitar because it's multi-act.
This is [D] something that Robert is [Am] known [Em] for.
And [E] in fact, he's the best at this type of guitar of anyone in the world.
So you have
a basic nut bowl type [G] guitar that's been honed out and then braced.
[A]
But the components inside
really add so much.
And so the first time I ever saw the name L.R. Baggs was on a Godin
guitar.
And so I think my favorite thing that [E] I say that I had to do with this guitar is
I got these two guys on [A] a project together again after all those years.
And so you have
a Robert Godin and L [B].R. Baggs.
And I said it's like heaven and earth, you know, [Am] kiss
and [A] this guitar got caught right in the middle of the smack.
And so [Bm] the pickup system is the [Am] very first one they ever [A] made.
It was the LB-6.
And I
just love the sound.
I mean, you get a great [F#] sound.
[F#m] [A] [G#]
[E] And then, of course, you have a microphone
[C] inside.
[G#m] [D] [F]
[A#] [A]
[Em] And what I do is just kind of wait until it just kind of comes in.
And then [E]
that's
[A] it and just adds [D] air.
And then this is [B] what L.R. [Am] Baggs has in a [Em] pedal called the Session
[E] DI.
[Dm] And it's a component, you [A] know, when you master a record.
And you think you have a
record, it [E] sounds great.
You mix it and then you master it.
It brings it up to a whole different level.
Okay, this is a guitar.
Whatever that kind of dark art is in mastering, it makes everything sound better.
Well, there are two components, [Em] multiband compression.
And it's not to be confused with
a compressor pedal, multiband compression and also harmonic distortion, which is what
you get on the tube.
[E] So, you know, you get [C#m] all that.
[E]
It just rounds it off with [A]
[E]
the [Am] harmonics
and everything too.
It just [A] really rings out.
[E] So Mario, tell us a little bit about how kind of from [C#] Godin's side, how this kind of project
with Doyle [B] came about.
Well, a couple of years ago, Doyle [C] passed by our booth and [Em] Robert Godin and [E] Simon took
him around the booth and showed him a bunch of different guitars.
And at that point, [D] I
think Doyle, you were playing the Multi-Ax Steel.
[G] And from [E] there, kind of started talking
about, you know, this is great.
I'd love if we could [G] do a little bit of this and [A] a
little bit of that.
And next thing you know, we were building a signature model.
So we took [E] the basic philosophy of the Multi-Ax, which is, [G] you know, as you can tell, it's
a double -chambered acoustic guitar that you can play extremely loud without worrying about
feedback.
And then we added all these other components that [E] Doyle wanted in this guitar.
[D] You know, whether it was the neck profile [Em] and some of the cosmetics, [A] but more importantly,
the system.
We really [Em] tried to marry the system [E] with the guitar.
So we sent this guitar, two
bags [Em] and LR bags, [G] voiced the system [D] for our guitar.
So [A] it's a real custom system that
fits well with the acoustics, [E] the natural acoustics of this [A] guitar.
And we went back
and [Am] forth a bunch of times until we, you know, we dialed it in.
[Em] And they're [E] actually starting
to ship right now.
Actually, they'll be shipping in July.
So a couple trickled out, but this
is really the official [Em] final version.
And what'll be the [E] price on the guitar?
The street price is [G] $19.95. [E] So it's like, first of all, it's 100% Canadian made.
[Am] So
we're [B] extremely proud of that.
And we wanted to make the guitar, [Em] we spoke about this as
well, to make it, it's a custom shop.
This guitar is made in our custom shop in Richmond,
Quebec.
But we wanted it to be affordable [A] and attainable to everybody, you know.
So
that's why it's like a very [Em] fair price for a [D] completely custom guitar.
[E] It's a Doyle guitar.
And [A] he's been playing it for a while, [Em] doing clinics and performances all over the world
for us and [G] on his own.
[Am] And we're so happy that [E] he's playing it and [G] it sounds great.
[E] And also another thing, I'm sorry, I didn't mean [B] to, but it has a solid [Am] headstock, which
is different than the other multi-ax that are open in the [Em] slotted headstocks, you know.
[A] And you can do string bends.
This is in my guitar, I did a
[Em]
And so [B] that sort of thing, you know, which I do a lot.
Yeah, right.
[E] All right, well, let's hear a little bit more, Doyle.

[Em] So Mario, tell us a little bit about where people can go to
find out more information [B] about Doyle's new guitar and everything else you guys are doing at Godin.

There's dealer [E] listings and I'm sure on Doyle's site [Em] as well, you'll find a whole bunch of
information.
So visit [C] godinguitars.com for the [G] latest.
